An interesting association copy, from the library of Prof. E L Bowles, pioneer of Radar in WW2 and MIT professor. Probably the most comprehensive early work on selenium cells, covering the early history, physical and electrical properties and applications like light telephony and television, with extensive bibliographical notes at the end of each chapter. George P Barnard was of the Electrical Department at the National Physical Laboratory, Teddington, England. Heavy book with extra P&P charges.

This is the original edition and not a modern reprint or reproduction. James Swinburne was a very experienced and highly respected electrical consulting engineer, his expertise ranging from power stations to wireless telegraphy. In 1902-1903 he was President of the Institute of Electrical Engineers (IEE); in 1912 appointed by the British Government as member of the Technical Committee considering the Imperial Wireless Scheme.

Spine ends are a little bumped; occasional minor wear to exteriors (front board of v.1 and rear board of v.3 are slightly scuffed). One tissue guard missing a corner. Dritte Ausgabe. - Der Bildhauer Johann Martin Fischer (1741-1820) wurde 1785 Mitglied der Akademie der bildenden Künste in Wien und übernahm im folgenden Jahr als erster Nichtmediziner die dortige Professur der Anatomie. 1815 wurde er Rat und Direktor der Allgemeinen Rat- und Bildhauerschule und mit seinen Brunnenplastiken am Wiener Graben neben Franz Anton Zauner der bedeutendste Bildhauer seiner Zeit in Wien (vgl. DBE). Sein Hauptwerk in diesem Zusammenhang ist die lebensgroße anatomische Statue, die er für den Lehrbetrieb an der Akademie schuf und die schnell zu einer der vielbewunderten Sehenswürdigkeiten Wiens wurde. Seine "Erklärungen" sind als Nachschlagewerk und Lehrbuch in Anatomie für Künstler gedacht, das als Standardwerk weit über den Tod Fischers hinaus Anwendung fand. - Schönes Exemplar mit den dekorativen Stempeln der "K. K. Infanteriecadetenschule zu Agram" und der "K. K. Infanterie-Kadettenschule zu Karlstadt" am Titelblatt, die ihrerseits als interessantes Zeugnis der Breitenwirkung des Werkes Zeugnis geben.
