brossura Josemaría Escrivá de Balaguer nacque in Spagna, a Barbastro, il 9 gennaio 1902. Dopo aver ricevuto una educazione cristiana dai suoi genitori fu ordinato sacerdote il 28 marzo 1925. Il 2 ottobre 1928 fondò l'Opus Dei. Si trasferì a Roma nel 1946, dove risiedette fino al giorno della sua morte, il 26 giugno 1975. Il 17 maggio 1992 è stato beatificato da San Giovanni Paolo II e dieci anni dopo, il 6 ottobre 2002, fu proclamato santo. La presente opera in tre volumi espone teologicamente l'insieme del messaggio di San Josemaría sulla santificazione del lavoro professionale e dell'intera vita quotidiana.
ill., br. San Valentino è uno dei santi più citati ma anche il più sconosciuto. Il suo profilo originario, infatti, è stato offuscato nel corso dei secoli da improbabili ricostruzioni leggendarie, che hanno creato solo confusione, trasformandolo in una figura globale, senza volto, senza biografia e senza patria: il Valentine fatato anglosassone, "patrono" degli innamorati. Un'immagine dunque sempre più commerciale e mediatica, che ha visto sviluppare intorno a sé quella perfetta autonomia del marketing che caratterizza oggi il suo "nome". Ma da circa un ventennio a questa parte, la ripresa degli studi ha permesso di ricostruire scientificamente il profilo del santo, che si mosse tra Roma e Terni - città dell'Umbria (Italia) che lo venera come vescovo e lo pone tra i primi "costruttori" della Chiesa locale -, per definirne con maggior rigore la vicenda terrena, la rappresentazione artistica e il culto. Il presente volume, pertanto, intende offrire un contributo per restituire a san Valentino il profilo di evangelizzatore e taumaturgo caduto come martire in età postcostantiniana nel vortice dell'ultimo scontro tra cristianesimo e paganesimo resiliente, deciso a opporsi fino all'ultimo alla conversione alla nuova religione delle classi intellettuali dell'impero romano. Una parte preponderante del libro è riservata all'evoluzione iconografica di san Valentino, tra identità e mescolanza con altri profili agiografici, che hanno finito per svilire lo spessore del personaggio reale, al quale viene riconsegnata un'immagine rinnovata e contemporanea, ma rispettosa dell'essenza stessa del soggetto di cui è destinata a trasmetterne la memoria.
