ril. Tutto ciò che riguarda Padre Pio è stato sviscerato dai mass media, soprattutto dopo la proclamazione della sua santità. Solo un aspetto della sua vita resta ancora in ombra: la persecuzione cui fu sottoposto da parte della Chiesa. Una persecuzione che rimane un enigma. Iniziata subito dopo la comparsa delle stigmate sul corpo del religioso, è durata, sempre più accanita, per il resto della sua vita e per diversi anni anche dopo la morte. Padre Pio visse in un continuo dissidio. Tremendo. Martirizzante. Furono molte le persone umane fallibili che all'interno della Chiesa cattolica, ebbero il compito di giudicare la sua vita, la sua condotta e i suoi fenomeni mistici, e che si sbagliarono clamorosamente. La cosa grave sta nel fatto che quelle persone erano ai vertici di vari dicasteri vaticani, in particolare il Sant'Uffizio, il supremo tribunale per la difesa della fede. "Dimenticare le sue sofferenze significa tradirlo" mi disse un giorno Fra Modestino, un confratello di Padre Pio, considerato, dopo la morte dello stigmatizzato, il suo erede. Non è possibile pensare Gesù senza croce; non è possibile pensare Padre Pio senza sofferenze. Questo libro intende soffermarsi soprattutto sul racconto di queste sofferenze "morali e spirituali". E sulle persecuzioni che ne furono causa e che il religioso subì per tutta la vita. Il racconto si basa su migliaia di documenti conservati nell'Archivio segreto del Vaticano e in quello del Sant'Uffizio...

Un libro denso di ricordi e aneddoti, che traccia un profilo spigliato e affascinante di Madre Teresa, seguendo il fil rouge dei "segreti" del comportamento della Beata, i punti di riferimento spirituale che costituirono la "bussola" della sua vita, anche nei momenti di grande buio interiore.
