Engraved portrait frontis. of George I who had died two years before the title page date so we are presuming that both the frontis and the extra engraved title have come from an earlier edition of the prayer book. This volume also includes 49 engraved plates printed on only one side of paper - the reverse being blank. Bound in early 18th century full crimson morocco decorated in blind slightly worn along edges. All page edges gilt. Blank endpapers to front of volume contain 4 separate ownership inscriptions. One central gathering of pages and a few odd leaves are slightly proud of main contents. Inner hinges visible at front and centre but sound. Final blank leaf is loose. Apart from these faults a clean and sound copy of a pocket prayer book from the early 18th century. unknown

Illustrated with a folding colour map this is a very scarce legal act aiming to consolidate existing legislation relating to the London Docks. A very scarce 1828 act being 9 Geo. IV. Sess. 1828The London Docks Consolidation Act of 1828 was an act of Parliament that consolidated and amended existing legislation regarding the construction and operation of the London Docks.It aimed to streamline the legal framework for the docks which were vital for trade and commerce. Specifically the act dealt with the London Dock Company's authority to make improvements and modifications to the docks affecting areas like Charles Street and Farthing Fields.Illustrated with a folding colour map by Civil Engineer Henry R. Palmer titled 'Plan of the London Docks Exhibiting the Proposed Entrance and Entrance Basin at Shadwell'. Unbound with title page bound to the rear. Loss to upper half of first text leaf page 1 with significant closed tear and neat repairs to following leaf. Internally binding significantly strained with title page tenderly held and with folding map detached but present and binding especially tender between pages 68 and 69. "Root was a former common-school teacher who moved to Peoria County from Ohio in the fall of 1830. He apparently became a farmer after moving to Illinois" Byrd. An eccentric populist attack against big banks and the American legal system from an aging Peoria county farmer who notes that for "more than fifty years I have seen that there was some thing radically wrong in the political and religious world . I exerted myself for more than half a century politically and religiously for the sole purpose of heading and stopping those evils but all to no effect. The public journals both religious and political would not publish my communications because they were Truth." He was apparently a member of the National Reform Association an organization bent on re-Christianizing American society. He puts forth a libertarian philosophy saying that the greatest evils are: first and foremost Land Monopoly; Chattel Slavery; Alcohol; and Monopoly of the Law. Black ink ownership and gift inscriptions through several generations to verso of fly-leaf and both sides of the first blank. A minor stain to the top edge of the first 20 or so leaves otherwise internally clean. Moderate general wear to attractive contemporary binding with some minor repair to head of spine. Very good. Within a couple of years of his death Norbury’s nickname was given as ‘the hanging judge’ see ‘The Georgian Era’ vol.2 1833 and yet no mention is made of the fact in his entry in the Oxford DNB. The present document is 1p 4to. On the recto of the first leaf of a bifolium. In fair condition lightly aged. The declaration in a secretarial hand reads: ‘We the undersigned have pleasure in recommending Alexander Hawthorne of Sackville Street Glover as a person worthy of being honored with the commands of their Excellencies the Most Noble The Duke & Duchess of Northumberland having known him for many years to be an honest industrious respectable tradesman & one of the best Glove Manufacturers in Dublin’. Beneath this the Bishop of Meath writes: ‘45 Great Georges Street North / Feby 7th 1829 As far as I have knowledge I believe Alexander Hawthorne of Sackville Street to be an honest Man and a good Tradesman - Nathl: Meath’. And beneath that: ‘I know the bearer & know him a respectable Glover - 9 Gardiners row Norbury’. Norbury’s signature is largely written and heavily-inked. See Image. 7 February 1829. Dublin. unknown

Lady Tower was born Sophia Cust/Brownlow on 14 April 1811 the daughter of John Cust 1st Earl Brownlow and Sophia Hume. She married Christopher Theron Tower on 10 February 1836.
