Er verfasste kunstwissenschaftliche Studien zu Expressionismus Kubismus Konstruktivismus und Surrealismus und beschäftigte sich als einer der ersten Kunsthistoriker mit afrikanischer Kunst. Er war in zahlreichen literarischen Zirkeln aktiv und veröffentlichte Artikel in literarischen sowie politischen Zeitschriften. Ab 1928 in Paris lebend war er mit Georges Bataille Mitbegründer der surrealistischen Künstlerzeitschrift "Documents". Als Teilnehmer am Spanischen Bürgerkrieg wurde er Mitglied der anarchosyndikalistischen CNT-FAI und wurde zum "téchnico de guerra" in der Kolonne Durruti gewählt. Nach dem Sieg Francos floh Einstein 1939 zurück nach Frankreich wo er für kurze Zeit interniert war. Nach der Niederlage Frankreichs nahm er sich am 5. Juli 1940 bei Pau nahe der spanischen Grenze das Leben. Dr. phil. Hermann Haarmann ist Professor für Kommunikationsgeschichte mit dem Schwerpunkt Exilpublizistik sowie Direktor des Instituts für Kommunikationsgeschichte und angewandte Kulturwissenschaften an der FU Berlin. Klaus Siebenhaar Jg. 1952 ist Direktor des Instituts für Kultur- und Medienmanagement der Freien Universität Berlin und Verleger. He was due to start the lecture at 3.45pm but did not arrive until 6.30 as he took a detour to visit the birth place of Isaac Newton. The blackboard on which he wrote was quickly varnished over when the lecture was over and is still preserved in the university.
