Nach dem Sieg Francos floh Einstein 1939 zurück nach Frankreich wo er für kurze Zeit interniert war. Nach der Niederlage Frankreichs nahm er sich am 5. Juli 1940 bei Pau nahe der spanischen Grenze das Leben. Dr. phil. Hermann Haarmann ist Professor für Kommunikationsgeschichte mit dem Schwerpunkt Exilpublizistik sowie Direktor des Instituts für Kommunikationsgeschichte und angewandte Kulturwissenschaften an der FU Berlin.
