Two very scarce volumes of The London Journal of Arts Sciences and Manufactures and Repertory of Patent Inventions conducted by W. Newton of the office for patents and other scientific men. The present collection comprising se conjoined series of Vol. XXXV of 1849 and Vol. XLI of 1852. This journal is comprised of early scientific developments and contemporary patents these volumes including articles on Christian Schiele's invention of improvements in the construction of cocks of valves also applicable to reducing the friction of axles journals and other rubbing surfaces; Edward Schunck for improvements in the manufacture of malleable iron; Wiliam Edward Newton for an improvement in the construction of wheels being a communication; Andrew Shank's improved mode of giving form to certain metals when in a fluid or molten state; &c. Each volume is accompanied by full page plates with numerous figures to accompany the articles. Collated complete with eighteen to volume I and twelve folding to volume II. In uniform bindings. Lacking the half titles. In a half calf binding over marbled boards with new endpapers. Externally sound with some shelf wear and rubbing to the boards and spine as well as minor chipping to the extremities. Internally firmly bound. With some minor spotting to the first and last few leaves particularly to the leaves of plates otherwise the pages are generally very clean with only a touch of age toning as usual. Each volume is accompanied by full page plates with numerous figures to accompany the articles. Collated complete with eighteen to volume I and twelve folding to volume II. Very Good W.
