Friedrich August Quenstedt (1809 - 1889) übernahm im Jahre 1837 den neu geschaffenen Lehrstuhl für Mineralogie und Geognosis an der Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen. Er begründete damit die noch junge Geologie als eigenständigen Wissenschaftszweig im Königreich Württemberg. Den Lehrstuhl hatte er 52 Jahre inne. Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte waren vor allem Fossilien und ihre Nutzung in der Stratigraphie. ...Sein Hauptverdienst ist die intensive Erforschung der Juraformationen der Schwäbischen Alb. Cm. 21,5, pp. 628 (2). Con tre carte geografiche ripiegate e 34 interessanti incisioni su tavole fuori testo (ciascuna protetta da velina). Il tutto inciso in rame. Legatura coeva in cart. marmorizzato con titoli ms. al dorso. Un piccolo restauro all'angolo basso di una carta e fioriture a qualche sezione di carte, peraltro esemplare marginoso e ben conservato. Seconda edizione, aumentata rispetto alla precedente, di questo interessante saggio con ampi capitoli ed iconografia riguardante le miniere ed il modo di estrarne i minerali. Non comune.
Due volumi di cm. 26, il primo di testo di pp. xi (3) 728+ 151 con figure, un ritratto e la carta geologica dell'Illinois rip. f.t. Il secondo volume contiene 78 tavole in litografia, ciascuna accompagnata da una carta di spiegazione. Leg. edit. in piena tela verde con fregi ai piatti e titoli in oro ai dorsi. Ottimo stato di conservazione.
