Magnifica calcografia, proveniente dalla "Storia naturale degli Uccelli", a cura di Saverio Manetti, Lorenzo Lorenzi e Violante Vanni, stampata a Firenze negli anni 1767-1776. Manetti, medico e direttore dell'orto botanico di Firenze dal 1749 al 1782, fu il responsabile del testo, per la nomenclatura delle specie e per la distribuzione dell'opera. L'abate Lorenzo Lorenzi e Violante Vanni (una delle poche donne a lavorare in quel campo) disegnarono le tavole, le incisero su rame e le colorarono a mano. Il risultato fu la migliore e più ampia opera illustrata di ornitologia realizzata fino ad allora. Si tratta della tavola numero LXXVIII dell'opera. Ottime condizioni, in passe-partout.

All but about 15 of them are first printings in fact they are all still available but with the vast majority being later printings and at much greater cost. Publisher's stapled wrappers. About half of them are still shrink-wrapped. Housed in the publisher's slipcases 18 with gilt lettering and designs. An excellent set.Birds of North America is a comprehensive encyclopedia of bird species in the United States and Canada with substantial articles about each species. It was first published as a series of 716 printed booklets prepared by 863 authors and made available as the booklets were completed from 1992 through 2003. The project was overseen by the American Ornithologists' Union in partnership with the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia. This set belonged to the "Godfather of Biodiversity" Dr. Thomas Lovejoy d. 2022. Thomas Eugene Lovejoy III was an American ecologist who was President of the Amazon Biodiversity Center a Senior Fellow at the United Nations Foundation and a university professor in the Environmental Science and Policy department at George Mason University. Lovejoy was the World Bank's chief biodiversity advisor and the lead specialist for environment for Latin America and the Caribbean as well as senior advisor to the president of the United Nations Foundation. In 2008 he also was the first Biodiversity Chair of the H. John Heinz III Center for Science Economics and the Environment to 2013. Previously he served as president of the Heinz Center since May 2002. Lovejoy introduced the term biological diversity to the scientific community in 1980. He was a past chair of the Scientific Technical Advisory Panel STAP for the Global Environment Facility the multibillion-dollar funding mechanism for developing countries in support of their obligations under international environmental conventions.Postage will be considerable.
