Light to moderate foxing throughout being heavier on the endpapers and blanks. Front hinge of vol. 1 is starting. Faint marginal dampstaining at the top-edge of both volumes and on the lower board of vol. 1 and the upper board of vol. 2. Cloth shows moderate soiling overall with occasional ink splatter to cloth and bottom edges of book blocks. Thomas Noon Talfours 1795-1854 the edittor was a friend to most of the major literary figures of the time - Coleridge Wordswrth the Brownings - and served as lawyer to Charles Dickens. Bound in the original publisher's cloth. Now brown in colour most probably it was maroon at publication. Titling in gilt on the spines very bright. Full textblock; x 459 pages and 476 pages. Foxed throughout though the text remains clear. Moderate rubbing at the margins with a chip to the head of Volume 2 spine; stains to the covers. These are sound copies but perhaps not the prettiest. The book features a wonderful color chromolithograph illustration of Santa Claus by Mrs. Julia C. Emmet on the front cover. There is a small illustration on the title page. 1888; Frederick A. Stokes & Brother; New York. Softcover bound with the original string - there are 12 numbered pages in all. The book is a collection of Christmas poems by various authors - the titles are as follows: Address of the Christmas Basket; Christmas Sentiments; Christmas Comes but Once a Year; Baby Grace; The Christmas Bells; Stabat Mater Speciosa; The Christmas Holly; Christmas Hymn of the Ancients.<br /><br />Condition:<br />A tiny bit of the top-right corner of the front cover has chipped away; the bottom-right front cover corner is creased and is tender. There is a 3/4" tear at the left edge of the front cover below the string. The circular illustration on the front cover has a small scuff at the lower-right. The front cover is still attached but has pulled from the bottom edge up to the string. The back cover and all pages are firmly attached. Nice interior - the pages are mostly clean with only a bit of light smudging on the first and last pages. Overall the book is in Good condition.</p> Frederick A. Stokes & Brother

The first published long poem of Sir James Bland Lamb 1st Baronet 1752 – 1824 which garnered a reputation for being very poorly received by critics and the public alike. Despite this early literary failure Lamb's ample finances allowed him to continue publishing; his efforts however never proved particularly successful despite a brief endorsement from Lord Byron after his play Riches or the Wife and Brother debuted at the Lyceum Theatre in 1810. .
