Very Good. 0x0x0. 1993 association copy 1977 Nobel winner Roger Guillemin L'Agrifoglio Editions Milan Italy 6 3/4 x 9 inches tall white cloth hardcover in publisher's unclipped dust jacket black lettering to front cover and spine copiously illustrated with color reproductions of artwork 168 pp. Laid in is a card reading 'From the Private Collection of Dr. Roger and Lucienne Guillemin Nobel Laureate 1977 Salk Institute La Jolla CA.' Roger Charles Louis Guillemin was a French-American neuroscientist who received the National Medal of Science in 1976 and the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1977 for his work on neurohormones. A couple of tiny stains to the covers. Mild foxing of blank front and rear endpapers. Otherwise a very good copy with an impressive provenance in a slightly stained dust jacket which is nicely preserved and displayed in a clear archival Brodart sleeve. ~SP30~ 2.0P Enzo Esposito was born in Benevento in 1946 and has lived and worked in Milan for more than twenty years. A prominent name on the artistic scene of the ’80s Esposito participated in all the exhibitions of the time marking the transition from 'conceptual art' to 'painting.' After a phase of maturation in a climate of conceptual art and formal rigor he became one of the first artists to recognize the return to painting through 'environments' in the late ’70s. His first installations date back to 1977 painted directly on the gallery walls in which imposing color creates a strong emotional involvement. It was at this time that Renato Barilli noted his work and included Esposito in the 'Nuovi Nuovi' group on the 'aniconic' side; in the’80s he participated with them in numerous group shows in major international museums. The subsequent period in his career was characterized by a form of abstract expressionism made up of bright lights and increasingly vast expansive fields of color. The dimensions of his works are almost always monumental allowing the artist to underline the objective value of painting as an enthralling totalizing experience for both the creator and the viewer. 'My work is not narrative a dialogue with the surface a happening in paint. There are no icons. There are no titles. Giving it a title means giving it a margin and I want no margins.' Former owner Roger Guillemin in addition to being a brilliant and innovative scientist was an artist. He collected pre-Columbian art with a passion and restored many of the pieces himself. Having computers at his disposal Guillemin decided to channel his artistic mind into designing posters to advertise his lectures. This idea was the beginning of what he later called 'abstract impressionism.' His beautiful digital inkjet prints were soon featured in high-end galleries. Guillemin also organized exhibits of his art in collaboration with local universities throughout the United States and he donated a large part of the proceeds of the sales to student organizations.
