This book was written with the full cooperation of Leon Gaspard who approved the finished text. As the manuscript was being set in type for publication he suddenly died. It has been thought best to leave the text unaltered save for a brief mention of his passing in deference to the warm and vibrant personality who enfused these written and pictorial memories with so much color joy and life.
