From playing the nightclubs such as Edmond's Cellar and the Plantation Club on Broadway she went on to perform at the Cotton Club in the 1930s with Duke Ellington where she debuted one of her most well known songs "Stormy Weather." She would continue her trailblazing in 1939 when she became the first African American to star in her own television show. She was also the second African American to be nominated for an Academy Award and the first African American woman to be nominated for an Emmy.<br /> <br /> <br /> This copy is inscribed to trumpeter Clarence Eugene or "Gene" Shaw who played with Lester Young Wardell Gray and later Charles Mingus on his Tijuana Moods album and others. .
