The spine is marked by hand and shelving there is wear to head and foot and along the seams. They are steady and sound. The front papers have previous owner signatures. Pp. xvi 300; 38 woodcuts in text. Publisher's original forest-green cloth lettered in gilt on the spine and stamped in blind along the outer borders of the front and rear covers 8vo. This is Darwin's primary work on plant fertilization. Darwin was keenly interested in the morphology of orchids and how these structures enticed insects to fertilize them. This is Freeman 814; there are only eight John Murray entries in Freeman for "Fertilisation of Orchids." Far fewer copies of this Darwin title were printed by Murray compared with his other titles.
