Mimetes the pagoda is a genus of evergreen shrubs or small trees 0.56 meters 1.619.7 feet high with thirteen species assigned to the family Proteaceae. This genus as with other proteas is popular with nectivorous birds such as the Cape sugarbird and several sunbird species. All species of Mimetes are endemic to the Cape Region of South Africa from Wiki. Orothamnus or marsh rose is a monotypic fynbos genus in the family Proteaceae occurring in the Kogelberg and Kleinrivier Mountains of Hottentots-Holland in the Western Cape Province of South Africa. It is an erect sparsely branched shrub to 5 meter tall and was first depicted by Jean Villet a Capetonian artist and dealer in natural history specimens from Wiki. No ownership marks. The copy offered here is one of these eleven available for sale. Haworthia is a large genus of small succulent plants endemic to Southern Africa Mozambique Namibia Lesotho Swaziland South Africa. Like the Aloes they are members of the subfamily Asphodeloideae and they generally resemble miniature aloes except in their flowers which are distinctive in appearance. Horticulturally they are popular garden and container plants from Wiki. This is an important taxonomic revision of the genus Haworthia that was named after Adrian H. Haworth who was an English entomologist botanist and crustacean expert. This very rare offering is finely bound in attractive dark green morocco that is housed in a custom slipcase. Our copy has a double-sided sheet tipped-in at the front endpaper - possibly the author's brief explanation of the aims of his work I can not see this mentioned in any other copy. A highly important work in the history of grass taxonomy and with an impeccable provenance - from the library of C.E. Hubbard with his signature and stamp on the front endpaper; Hubbard was the foremost grass taxonomist of the twentieth century. . First Edition. Half-Leather. Good. A picture of this book is available upon request by email. This is a limited edition reprint of 1,000 copies of the classic orchid book with all the plates of the original which was printed 1837-43. His book was one of the largest books ever printed and 'was one of the first products of orchidomania that swept England's upper classes in the nineteenth century' [Glikbarg 12]. Each orchid described in the work was a new introduction, collected by Skinner in Guatemala and Hartweg in Mexico. Burrage p. 7. Nissen 89. The last copy of the original 1837 edition traced was at Sotheby's in 2003, selling for US$105,000 plus their commission, with the Christie's 2002 copy at US$170,000, each with some defects.

A picture of this book is avai Nissen 406a. Not in Glikbarg. Correvon, Swiss botanist and alpinist, wrote a number of influential works on alpine plants and flowers. The very attractive plates in this original edition are finely done and superior to those in the 1923 reprint. Each plate has the scientific name, and the common names in French, English and German. The text is in French.
