The author offers here the results of his life's experience as a gardener. He deals with local methods of cultivation and layout, and describes suitable plants and fruits; these include absinth, asparagus, mustard, horse-radish, lamb's lettuce, herbs, apricots, grapes, plums, cherries and gooseberries. Separate treatises are devoted to oranges, pinks and carnations.

Foro con perdita di testo ed imbrattature alle carte 159 e 160 (vedi foto). Frequenti annotazioni di antica mano. Il frontespizio si presenta mancante e riparato nella parte inferiore (vedi foto). Manca la carta bianca *4. Manca la tavola ripiegata. Stato di conservazione discreto. RARISSIMA PRIMA EDIZIONE ITALIANA DEL TESTO DI HERRERA SULL’AGRICOLTURA, PIU’ VOLTE RISTAMPATO. All’interno sono presenti numerose belle xilografie raffiguranti piante. Il testo raccoglie le esperienze e le teorie di diversi autori dell’antichità riguardo ai terreni, alla coltivazione (in particolare vigna, vino e ulivi), alle proprietà di alberi e piante, all’orticoltura, all’allevamento e all’apicoltura.

Solida ed elegante legatura del tempo in mezza pelle con punte, dorsi lisci con filetti in oro e titoli su tasselli. Esemplare in ottimo stato di conservazione. Esemplare completo nella parte iconografica composta dalle 11 tavole citate, ma mancante della tavola di prospetto del sistema lenneano.

Prima edizione, molto rara, della prima classificazione organica delle piante della flora delle Alpi Apuane della Versilia. Il Simi (Ripa di Seravezza, 1820-Levigliani, frazione di Stazzemi, Lucca, 1875) fu botanico, naturalista ed imprenditore del marmo, nonché alpinista dilettante, (nel 1844 prese parte alla prima ascensione della Pania della Croce e fu poi fra i primi soci della sezione fiorentina del C.A.I.). Scopritore (o primo visitatore) dell'Antro del Corchia, compose anche un Prodomo della fauna della Versilia rimasto inedito fino al 1991. Esemplare appartenuto (timbro di possesso) a Giovanni Arcangeli (Firenze, 1840-Pisa, 1921), botanico fra i maggiori dell'Italia del tempo

The text in German volume octavo is 69 1 pp. and is bound in publisher's printed steel gray wrappers. The atlas included consists of 100 loose stiff cards; each with an original photograph of the plant under discussion and botanical information printed in English German. and French The photographs are mounted into slits in the cars. The whole housed in the publisher's green cloth clamshell case with gilt lettering. The box is worn but sturdy. The photographs are sharp and clear. Very good and scarce.This is a photographically illustrated discussion of the flora of Trinidad and the West Indies.
