Original paper covers Cairo-born Fatima Sa'ad has produced here a 'proefschrift' for her degree of Doctor of Natural Science at the University of Utrecht supervised by Professor J. Lanjouw. A monograph of south-west Asian Convolvulus it has been reproduced from a typescript an IBM electric font it would appear and illustrated with some very fine art-work by the author. It contains some very useful critical comments and the general part which introduces the volume includes some interesting snippets such as the fact that the ground-up roots of Macaronesian endemic Convolvuli are the source of a fragrant powder known as "bois de rose". Some slight creasing to the corners of the front cover but overall in good condition. 288 pp. Bronder Offset Rotterdam unknown

Two parts in one volume octavo pp viii 1-227 i second title page 229-449 i slight age-toning and the very odd fox-mark but really very clean internally contemporary tree calf slightly worn at the corners re-backed with a new calf spine the original label preserved. A rare work and especially so with its second title page preserved; this was frequently discarded because of the continuous pagination. Soulsby - add. 772. Blanche Henry 861 - "Hull took up botany as a relaxation from medical duties". She also comments that of the other edition the second of 1808 only the first part exists. John Hull M.D. was born at Poulton in Lancashire in 1764 and received his medical education at Leyden where he graduated doctor of medicine 18th May 1792. He settled at Manchester and devoted himself especially to the practice of midwifery and held the appointment of physician to the Lying-in Hospital there. He was admitted an Extra-Licentiate of the College of Physicians 6th June 1806 and a Licentiate 25th June 1819. Dr. Hull died on the 17th March 1843 in Tavistock Square London the residence of his eldest son. Dr. Hull was an accomplished botanist and a sound practical physician. First Edition. Full Leather.
