This is the sister work of Edward Saunders' "Hemiptera Heteroptera" of the British islands, also published by Lovell Reeve & Co. in 1892. Bookplate on the front pastedown, joints and spine ends taped. Paper age-toned, last plate spotted, two others with a pencilled note, a few more pencilled annotations on some text pages. Other plates clean or with an occasional small spot. Nissen ZBI, 1232.

He was educated as a clergyman at Halle and took holy orders, and he also graduated as Doctor of Philosophy and medicine. Early in life his interest was aroused in entomology. In 1851 he became professor of botany in the university of Zürich, and he directed his attention to the Tertiary plants and insects of Switzerland. Heinrich Ludwig Hermann Müller (23 September 1829 – 25 August 1883) was a German botanist. Heinrich Bickhardt (1873-1920) was a German entomologist specialized in the family Histeridae.
