1968163j2033New York: Chedney Press. Very Good in Good dust jacket. 1968. First Edition. Hardcover. "This is the story of the true-to-life prototype of Ian Fleming's Goldfinger. The truth in this instance is stranger more menacing and frightening than fiction. The key figures pose as 'philanthropists' and are unsuspected. They use the U.S. and other governments and kings and queens as pawns in their game. The presentation herein is largely based on statements of the conspirators and their press agents." - Preface. Argues that "the Rothschild-Vatican cabal of the nineteenth century has been replaced by a conspiratorial alliance of the Rockefellers Jesuits and Illuminists-Communists intent upon the dictatorship genocide and enslavement of mankind." - Singerman 1186. 2 374 pages. 1942429j2653London: The Economic Reform Club. Good with No dust jacket as issued. 1942. Second Reprint. Paperback. "Trade in money itself in all its ramifications has become very literally the root of all evil and it is natural to aim at a millennium in which it will have totally disappeared. But there are so many states before we can get near such a millennium that very much consideration of this distant and puzzling ideal may be a waste of time. Civilisation is so behind-hand in monetary science while so advanced in other sciences that we had better be content with working for a system which will at any rate diminish the evil a system of solvency instead of a system of debt." - p. 98. Includes an appendix with proposals for the Reform of the Monetary System in its International Aspect. On page vi of his 1944 book "Money Manipulation and Social Order" Rev. Denis Fahey recommends this title as a means to study bankers and their ways. Rowe 1868-1945 was President of the National Federation of Housing Societies and President of the Economic Reform Club and Institute. What happens when hyperinflation sweeps across an entire society Whom does it threaten most and whom does it benefit And when finally the authorities act - why do the politicians and the bureaucrats invariably delay until after the value of an entire currency has been totally destroyed" - dust jacket. Recounts the destruction of Roman currency the French Assignat the Greenback and the Weimar hyperinflation. "Shapiro's fascinating description of four great periods of massive inflation in history should rightly cause us all to treat the present runaway inflation with a much greater sense of urgency than economists and officialdom have exhibited up until now. 1939324j0233Chicago Illinois: Honest Money Founders Inc. Good. 1939. First Edition. Paperback. Please note that the book we are offering a paperback. "We present herewith the Honest Money Year Book and Directory for 1940. The publisher Honest Money Founders Inc. has been actively engaged in the distribution of dependable monetary literature for several years. While tremendous strides have been made much can be done to make the monetary reform movement more effective. This book has been published in an attempt to co-ordinate the various efforts. Those in control of the private money power always seem to agree perfectly among themselves while the myriads of money reformers act like the historical 'Babylonians' each speaking in a different toungue - in utter confusion. The money power has always tried to keep it so because the effectivelness of united groups of money reformers would soon destroy the solidarity of the money monopoly." - Preface. A truly stellar compilation of material aimed at reforming America's monetary system contributed by dozens of prominent Americans. Includes the following sections: The Problem with twenty-four articles; The Opposition with twenty-one articles; Proposed Solutions with twenty-seven articles; The Directory with seven articles. 224 pages. Excellent bibliography. Includes 28-page directory of American monetary reform leaders listing their names and addresses alphabetically by state. Address written on title page otherwise clean and unmarked with moderate wear. Binding tight. A quality copy of this superb reference which remains relevant to this day.; 8vo . 1949112j2666London: William Hodge and Company Limited. Fair with no dust jacket. 1949. First Edition. Hardcover. "The record of this trial which follows is the verbatim official record. Much of it is a translation from German and it has only been edited where necessary to make the meaning clear: it pretends to no literary elegance. It is hoped that in this way it reflects better the atmosphere of the trial and the extempore speeches and questions and answers." - Preface. "This report is being published not to encourage a morbid interest nor to keep alive feelings of ill-will against our late enemies. But because the horror through which the world passed in those dark years of WWII was not just a nightmare which cannot recur but is something against which the collective conscience and alert vigilance of mankind asserting the rule of law in international affairs as in municipal ones must protect us. The Natzweiler concentration camp record is terrible." - Foreword. Wikipedia reports that the Natzweiler-Struthof Nazi concentration camp located on territory annexed from France in 1940 held 52000 prisoners between 1941 and 1944 approximately 22000 of whom are estimated to have died at the camp and its sub-camps. The prisoners were mainly from resistance movements in German-occupied territories. 233 pages. Index. Black and white photographic plates. First edition of the major work by the Abbé Gros de Besplas, the preacher of Louis XV. While property, society and religion were subjected to violent attacks in the writings of the philosophes, only very few "abbé's" introduced the subject of political economy into their sermons, some even to the point where they were called to order by the ecclesiastical authorites. Among them, the Abbé Gros de Besplas, while not believing in the utility of important and profound reform, argued that public welfare, of which religion and the monarch were the principle guards, follows from possession of the "necessary", a certain abundance, and being subjected to work. Gros de Besplas strongly condamns celibacy, mendicity and "le luxe" which, he feels, must be suppressed by means of heavy taxes, deplores the fallow land for want of instruments and machines in the hands of those who work the land, and argues for a more even distribution of land in "accord avec la justice". The subjects of the monarch, or any ruler, have four important rights: the right to life, the right to be free, the right to own property, and the right to be protected. From this Gros de Besplas arrives at a socialist theory of property: the property of land belongs to society as it can not belong to any particular man. To his politically moderate ideas Gros de Besplan attaches more radical ideas concerning property. The engraved frontispiece is preceded by a leaf which contains verso an "Explication du Frontispiece." Rare: only Higgs and Kress have the original edition.
«Though styled a translation, this French edition of Senior’s wrigtings constitutes an original work» precisa il catalogo 1205 di Quaritch (500£). Schumpeter: Senior forms «a triumvirate with Malthus and Ricardo: he was one of the three Englishmen whose works are the main stepping stones between A. Smith and J. S. Mill». Einaudi 5248.

Guillaume François Le Trosne (1728-1780) joined the physiocrats in 1764, contributing articles to their journals, and writing works defending their ideas. 'He became one of the most lucid exponents of the physiocratic doctrine; his views express most clearly the evolution of the school. At first an enthusiastic, inflexible adept of the abstract physiocratic system, he nevertheless evidenced a preference for practical questions, as reflected in his La liberté du commerce des grains, toujours utile et jamais nuisible (Paris, 1765).In this work, Le Trosne condemns the vagabond as a parasite on, and an enemy of, society. 'Only in politics did he remain absolutely faithful to absolutism ..... and hostile to democracy, that 'bizarre and monstrous' government which he doubtless pictured in the form of the violent popular demonstrations against the dealer in wheat or as personified by the vagabonds who had set fire to one of the farms of the magistrate' (ESS). Discusses the current situation in France, measures, legal and otherwise, taken to combat or remedy the situation, discusses the distinction to be made between vagabonds and beggars, and discusses possible solutions, one of which is condamning vagabonds to the galleys, and ends with a project for beggars and ways to combat mendicity. 'Ils provoquent le renchérissement de la main-d'oeuvre, car leur oisiveté diminue le nombre des travailleurs; ils favorisent encore l'augmentation des tailles' (INED: They cause the increase of cost of manpower, of labour, as their idleness reduces the number of workers; they rather favor the increase of the "tailles" (a tax)" (our translation)).
"The Blavet's version appeared at Yverdon in 1781 in 6 volumes 12mo, and at Paris in the same year in 3 volumes 12mo, and again at London and Paris in 1788 in 2 volumes 8vo [the present edition]... He had no intention of publishing it until his friend M. Ameilhon happened to complain of scarcity of interesting articles for his Journal de l'Agriculture, du Commerce, des Arts et des Finances, which had just come under the control of the Mercantilist. It struck him that he might offer it to him which he did, with the explanation that it was far from perfect. It was accepted, and appeared in the issues of the Journal between January, 1779, and December 1780. He did not anticipate that it would go further. The edition of 1788 likewise appeared without his knowledge or consent, and was still more marred by errors than that of Yverdon". (Lai, Cheng-chung. Adam Smith Across Nations).
Royal octavo. Pp. (ii), 198. With a beautifully engraved coat-of-arms of the Author printed on the leaf preceding title. With a list of works by the Author. Hardcover, bound in the original publisher's full cloth, blind ruled sides, gilt lettering to spine, black lettering to upper cover, yellow chalked endpapers, old institutional stamps and shelf label to first free endpaper, one to title-page, spine bit faded, sunned patch to board. Overall an excellent copy in fine condition. ~ First edition. Crump wrote many other books on banking, among them "The key to the London money market" (1872); "The theory of stock exchange speculation" (1874); "A new departure in the domain of political economy" (1878). The Author's coat-of-arms is most unusual both because of its charming design and its presence on the leaf usually reserved for half-title. It incorporates a central design, showing a cat in attack position and a knight's helmet. Under this, a ribbon bears the words "sine labore nihil" (Nothing Without Work). The outer ring bears the words "Arthur Crump Sigill". ~ Provenance: Previously in the library of the Second Chamber of the States-General of the Netherlands.
