The story is presented as a supernatural vision that the Texas high school student experienced. "My mind wandered back to old Goree High School and the buoyant hearts it held in 1924-'25. Suddenly I caught sight of a flower. 'Why there's our class flower' I almost shouted. Eagerly I plucked it and tested its fragrance. The odor seemed to give me a magic power. I examined one petal closely and a strange vision stole over me. When I regained my senses I was in a crowded New York Department Store.'Oh I'm head of the ladies glove department in this joint' yawned Gladys after our greetings.Next I found myself in a little West Texas town standing in front of a small and dingy office which bore the label of "Sheriff".the Sheriff was a young women of twenty who greeted me.and she told me that Franklin White was Mayor of the town while Norine was his private secretary.As I sat talking with my two friends their faces seemed suddenly to grow dim and to fade from my sight. A moment later I found myself back int eh little retreat with only the naked stalk of our class flower remaining."<br /> <br /> Recordings of the Class Motto "Out of school life into life's school." Many handwritten memories of parties and fun events recorded by album owner: "On Wednesday nite.the Senior girls motored out to Gladys' to spend the nite." Pressed sweet pea flower dated May 15 1925. The inside front wrapper has a publisher ad with a purposely made round cut-out in the center that reveals a woodcut flower on the paper underneath. Preliminary text is followed by a Table of Contents. 26095Five of the sixteen items dated between 17 March 1941 and .6 October 1943 the rest contemporaneous. Searchlight Wing School of Anti-Aircraft Defence Shrivenham Swindon. Also Longcot Lyford Lyndhurst and Romsey. The topic of this material is wartime training in part during the Blitz of sergeants for ‘Search Light Control’ or SLC nicknamed ‘Elsie’. A larger archive of similar material from the papers of Sgt. J. L. B. Royall on the same theme is offered separately. Sixteen items a few of which are discoloured and creased but the collection being in good overall condition. The first three items are in manuscript i.e. Royall’s autograph. The first two are interesting for the contrast between the accounts they give of the morale of those on the SLC course; and the third reports an arrest of two men found in a vehicle. Item Four is an typed circular signed by Lt B. Dale RA discussing a first sergeants’ course at regimental HQ. Item Five is a detailed programme of a four-day ‘S/L Battery. S.L.C. School’. Items Six to Sixteen are duplicated information sheets for the course. ONE: Manuscript ‘Report on Site MPHIO LONGCOT / Arrived: 12.30 HRS 7.8.42. Left - 20:00 HRS 8.8.42.’ 7 to 8 August 1942. Closely written on 1p small 4to. Divided into: SLC. Personnel available; Weather; SLC Knowledge; Manning Drill; Suggestions; Air Co-op; Morale. The last reads: ‘Men are very interested in SLC and have considerable confidence in its additional training and knowledge should improve this especially when they know the results of their work in illumination.
