6 vols., 8vo., with frontispieces; black cloth, gilt backs, a near fine set in unclipped dustwrapper. An elegant set. The set comprises Vol. I: Sense and Sensibility; Vol. II: Pride and Prejudice; Vol. III: Mansfield Park; Vol. IV: Emma; Vol. V: Northanger Abbey and Persuasion; Vol. VI: Minor Works. Chapman's third edition of the novels (five volumes) was first published in 1933; the sixrh volume was added in 1954. Chapman 18 (recording the first edition); Keynes 40, 41 (recording the first and second editions); Gilson E150, F15.
8vo., Third Edition thus [later impression], with a frontispiece, plates and full-page type-facsimiles, neat contemporary inscription on front free endpaper; green cloth, gilt back, a very good, bright, clean copy in price-clipped, lightly browned dustwrapper. Initially published in 1923 as Vol. V of Chapman's five-volume edition of The Novels. The 'illustrations from contemporary sources' are a new feature, augmented here by type-facsimiles of all three volumes of the first edition of 1813. Each of Chapman's five volumes is complete in itself, with introductory note and considerable bibliographical and literary apparatus. Gilson E150 (recording the five-volume collection).
8vo., First Edition, with a frontispiece and 4 plates, fore-edges lightly dust-soiled; original green cloth, gilt back, a very good, bright, clean copy in unclipped, moderately browned dustwrapper. Includes I. Juvenilia 1790-3 (Volume the First, Volume the Second, Volume the Third), II. Lady Susan, III. Fragments of Novels, IV. Plan of a Novel, V. Opinions of Mansfield Park and Emma, VI. Verses, VII. Prayers. It was originally intended to issue 'Minor Works' first as a limited edition on Large Paper to range with the 1923 editions of the novels, but the scheme was abandoned making this the work's first appearance. Increasingly elusive, especially in this condition. Gilson F15.
