This volume lacks the title page paper is pretty bright although the initial pages are not so much so as the rest of the pages; Volume II: 566 pages; Volume III: xi 567 pages index; Volume IV: 576 pages index; Volume V: 588 pages index; Volume VI: vii 556 pages index; Volume VII: xii 606 pages; This volume lacks the title page; Volume VIII: xii 580 pages index; Volume IX: x 567 pages index; Volume X: 560 pages. The Table of contents calls for a pamphlet beginning at page 561: <em>Proposals for the reformation of schools…. </em>Would guess it would probably runs about 15 pages.Volume XI: 564 pages index;Volume XII: 290 pages index plus cxxx pages of general index. I checked in the General Index for the <em>Proposals for the reformation of schools. </em>but didn't find any reference to it. Maybe an oversight or maybe my error.The set is bound in a very bright red buckram with gilt lettering on spine. Probably done by the previous owner when he was at Chapel Hill in the early 1980's. The page blocks have occasional toning and some light dampspotting but are supple and clean. Couple of volumes may have very slight musty smellOverall with defects noted a good clean tight set. $150 Box 27</p><p>The <em>Harleian Miscellany</em> is a collection of material from the library of the Earl of Oxford and Earl Mortimer collated and edited by Samuel Johnson and William Oldys between 1744 and 1753 on behalf of the publisher Thomas Osborne. Its subtitle was <em>A Collection of Scarce Curious And Entertaining Pamphlets And Tracts as well In Manuscript As In Print Found In The Late Earl Of Oxford's Library Interspersed With Historical Political And Critical Notes. </em>The "late Earl of Oxford" whose library was the source of the texts could refer either to Robert Harley 1st Earl of Oxford and Earl Mortimer died 1724 or to his son Edward Harley 2nd Earl of Oxford and Earl Mortimer died 1741.</p> Printed for Robert Dutton, Gracechurch-Street, hardcover
