Couverture en bon état (infime déchirure marginale et quelques salissures légères), intérieur parfait, à grandes marges (non rogné). Edition originale. Tirage total à 540 exemplaires numérotés sur divers papiers. Celui-ci, 1 des 390 exemplaires sur vélin (avec 35 Japon, 50 Hollande, 65 Arches). Cet ouvrage contient neuf poèmes ayant tous pour sujet une rose différente. Chaque rose évoque une femme différente, douce ou vénéneuse, sauvage ou docile. On y trouve ainsi outre le premier Poème de la Rose qui évoque ce "captivant symbole", cette "fleur-déesse" à la "fringante beauté", Rose "fleur d'amour" et "fleur de volupté", l'auteur chantera dans les poèmes qui suivent le "fastueux cantique" de la Rose-Femme ou de la Femme-Rose : La Rose Sauvage - La Rose Blanche - La Rose Rose - La Rose Thé - La Rose Soufre - La Rose Pompon - La Rose Rouge - La Rose Noire. Ce petit volume est une véritable réussite bibliophilique. Les bois gravés d'André Deslignères, rehaussés de couleurs vives au pochoir, donnent à l'ensemble une sensualité tout à la fois féminine et florale, tout à fait en adéquation avec les poèmes de l'auteur. On a de cet auteur d'autres recueils intitulés : Les Vierges de Mai (illustrations de Roubille), Poèmes infernaux, Mabrouka femme arabe (bois de Paul Baudier), A travers le Quartier Latin, Magnificat, etc. Octave Charpentier (1872-1940) était un familier de Montmartre et du Quartier Latin. Gryll Grange is Thomas Love Peacock's final novel published after his retirement from the East India Company and first appearing in Fraser's Magazine in 1860. The novel concerns itself with the business of the unmarried Gregory Gryll and his niece who he adopted out of a need for an heir to Gregory Grange and how she at last comes to find a man to her taste. Typical to Peacock's other works the novel's setting involves the characters at a table discussing and criticising philosophical opinions of the day. Four pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear. In the original pebbled cloth. Externally generally smart with moderate rubbing and bumping to the extremities. A unique copy containing signed testimonials to the 7th Infantry Division from four two-star and three one-star US generals including the five Commanding Generals from August 1941 to September 1945. These are Major-General Charles H. White; Major-General Albert Eger Brown; Major-General Charles H. Corlett; Major-General Archibald Vincent Arnold; and Brigadier-General Joseph Ready 1-10 May 1945. The other testimonials are by Brigadier-General L.J. Stewart and Brigadier-General Zimmerman. White has inscribed the half-title and Arnold the verso of the title page; the other testimonials are on tipped-in sheets of paper. Five of them are dated three in 1950 two in 1952. Brigadier-General L.J. Stewart served with the 7th Division throughout the war and his lengthy encomium lists a significant number of firsts: the 7th was the first Division to reconquer the only American territory ever taken by an enemy; the first to seize and occupy Japanese mandated territory; it spearheaded the attack on Leyte; it made the first landing on Okinawa; it was the original occupation force in Korea.
