Slim 8vo pp. xiii 106 6 illustrated with engravings by Clemence Housman after drawings by Paul Woodroffe plus rose thorn and heart head- and tail-pieces and similarly floriated initials. Red cloth spine and upper board lettered in gilt yap fore-edges. Fore-edge untrimmed illustrated endpapers on the same lover's theme. Spine sunned extremities pushed rubbed and faded. Edges and endpapers foxed POI in black pen to verso of ffep else clean tight and bright with Clemence Houseman's engravings especially pleasing. An attractive edition. Very good The author illustrator and suffragette Clemence Housman 1861-1955 collaborated with her second brother Laurence on a number of book projects as well as co-founding the Suffrage Atelier. In a lavish full brown morocco binding with five raised bands and ornate gilt stamping to spine borders on covers wide turn-ins and beautifully patterned endsheets; all edges gilt. Near Fine with a light amount of rubbing to joints spines lightly faded a scuff to the front cover of Volume II and small former owner bookplates of noted collector Abel E. Berland to the front pastedowns. Pine's Latin text was based on Talbot's 1699 edition and is remarkable for being entirely illustrated with engraved copper plates throughout the text. Kemp Waldie, and also contains items from the Fisher Library and the Library of the University of Waterloo. It illustrates the varied aspects of Gill's career, with special emphasis on his graphic art and book illustration. The catalogue, by Alan Horne, Richard Landon, and Guy Upjohn won a first place award from the Rare Books and Manuscripts Sections of the American Library Association, and two design awards from the National Composition and Prepress Association. These carvings showcase royal inscriptions symbolic figures and decorative motifs reflecting the empire's grandeur and artistic sophistication. The hieroglyphics and characters likely represent Old Persian Elamite and Babylonian script which were commonly used in Achaemenid inscriptions. The engraving was printed 1747 in London by T. Extensively illustrated with full page and folding engravings including folding tables and maps frontis portraits of the emperor and eagle engraving on title pages. Full mottled leather with newer gilt and dark green spine labels raised spine bands all edges tinted red original marbled endpapers with additional new endpapers in first part. Part I is 1000 pages and is very good with faint dampstains to the lower corners of pages 993-1000 very minor worming to the bottom of one folding table short closed tear to one map. Part II has some edgewear and small area of worming to the outer edge of the front cover 28 1024 pages margins of two folding maps trimmed a little closely.
