Rarissima prima ed unica edizione di questo scritto di interesse odontoiatrico che illustra una nuova macchina per la cura delle carie dentali, del noto medico, chirurgo e dentista di origini senesi, residente a Firenze, Gaetano Buzzi. L’autore nacque il 13 marzo del 1773 a Campagnatico, piccola terra nel grossettano. Studiò medicina e chirurgia a Siena. Iniziò a praticare a Firenze sotto la guida dell’insigne medico Gaetano Palloni. Interessatosi ai problemi odontoiatrici pensò che anche l’arte del dentista, all’epoca praticata da persone con una scarsa preparazione medio-scientifica, dovesse essere innalzata a vera e propria professione ed arte medica. Buzzi ottenne presto fama tanto che presto vennero a lui numerosi clienti da tutto il territorio toscano. Ben presto da lui iniziarono a venire anche illustre personalità italiane che non avevano trovato nei chirurghi locali, sollievo ai loro problemi orali. Si interessò anche di oftalmologia. Scrive l’autore all’inizio della descrizione “E’ stata in tutti i tempi riconosciuta per il più sicuro, ed efficace rimedio per il dolore dei denti, come per arrestare i progressi della carie dei medesimi, l’ustione.
