H14608Hardcover. Very Good. 12 x 7 leather boards with two large screws to keep in together some riubbing and suffing to binding but very good and solid with about 175 photos of a family probably associated in the R. J. Maple company and family of Collinwood OH a neighborhood on the east side of Cleveland a little north of Cleveland Heights. No family members are identified but there is a photo of people in front of the R. J. Maple storefront and front what we can tell there was a plumbing company by that name in Collinwood. There are also two real photo postcards of the Lakeview School in Collingwood one of which shows it on fire: in 1908 this fire was one of the worst school disasters in American history killing over 160 students and teachers. A motif running through this is the love of three scruffy looking poodles one of which has mastered the art of sitting up on its hind legs and begging. Photos of these dogs represent a small but significant portion of the total number of snapshots. hardcover

H10359Very Good. Album measures 7.5 x 5.5 stiff paper covers dozens of snapshots mainly charting the growth of daughter Glenna Miriam Custis born in Finlay Ohio in 1913 from babyhood to tweener. There are some nice evocative "vernacular photography" snapshots none is captioned however so the occasional appearance in the album of a pair of women who look like identical twins lends an air of mystery to the sequence of pictures. Glenna 1913-2002 eventually married a preacher herself moved to western Pennsylvania Tarentum and Natrona Heights area and had one daughter now deceased. The album covers Glenna's life in smalltown Ohio. unknown
22421Softcover. Very good. 7" x 11" strong-tied photograph album containing 35 snapshots 3.5" x 5" corner-mounted one per page rectos only. A small album without captions but with good documentary content. The first two images are a nice Juneau street scene and a shot of the Alaska Air Transport Terminal in the Juneau harbor. These are followed by some rural scenes showing country roads and houses that we suspect are outside Juneau and several shots of a terminal where cargo is being either loaded from rail car to ship or vice versa. From there three shots show a ship's passage presumably across the Gulf of Alaska from Juneau to Kodiak as the remainder of the images 20 seem to be from Kodiak. There are several nice images of the Kodiak dock and harbor several of a rural road and house a view looking down at the town from a hillside and many shots of the beautiful Russian Orthodox church. unknown

This expedition was important in gaining evidence that was used in arbitration that voted in favor of England against the U.S. As the expedition was an official one undertaken largely in secret it is possible that the photos of the area were taken by a member of that expedition likely a Westerner and skilled amateur or professional photographer. A full report of that expedition undertaken on the chartered steamer Danube also in the photos was accessed 1.2.23. https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/ptid=hvd.hwyprv&view=1up&seq=11
The British Man-O’-War Porpoise which is included in the photographs is mentioned as accompanying the group.

Photos overall are in good condition a few are slightly faded some with tissue guards interleaved.
