Not surprisingly Reed declines to be goaded into penning "some political sentiment" that could be viewed as throwing his hat into the presidential ring prematurely! Below this clipped signature is tipped another slip 3" X 2½" on which is penned in minute 19th century script: "The autograph of John Talbot is the Earl of Shrewsbury the great book collector -- it is genuine & I got it from a person who purchased it in a copy of Wordsworth at the Alton Towers Sale of his library" signed "Hahnhaus."
