Harold Furniss Edited By Author Frank Bradley is largely Associated with most of the Writing : Famous Fights Past and Present Shurey's One Penny Edition Original Magazines From Vol 1 No 3 through to Vol IV No 53 Published By Shurey's Fleet Street in London Circa 1901 - 1904 A Very Rare Historical Record of Prize Fighting in the Ring Bound In One Volume Condition Of Newspapers: These magazines/newspapers have been housed in a plain taped up black linen type cloth binding with some wear to edges so as a result they are mostly in very good condition.The book begins with what appears to be some 12 pages of Vol 1 no 2 issuebut with no illustrated front coverit then moves onto the front cover of Vol 1 No 3 featuring 'The beautiful wife' of John C Heenan and the bound volume ends up with The Shurey's Edition of Vol IV 'The Great Fight Between Tom Cribb and Bob Gregson' Each magazine varies between some 12 to 20 pages in length.These are all original antique Famous Fights Magazines from Shurey's priced at one penny and published in London Fleet Street.The newspapers are continuously paginated through each volume of which there are 13 issues consisting of some 300 or so pages of text to each Volumeand each with additional wood engraved drawings and lithographic reproduced photographs.These are famously brittle newspapers and it was published on poor quality newsprint hence they tend not to survive as well as most of these which we have and have been bound up together.The series I believe began in 1901 through to 1904 and covered the early history of bare knuckle fighting and features all of the significant names from that genre and the most significant pugilists of the time.So there are some 49 Newspapers in allwith the first magazine loose and not attachedall the remaining newspapers are attached apart from the first title page of Vol 1 NO 3one torn page of 1157 of Vol IV no 49.There are various small tearsnicks to the edges of certain pages to be expectedthey need to be handled with utmost care.Typically they are seen sold individually for £25 to £50 depending on their condition.This is a great opportunity to acquire some 49 Issues of this wonderful period history of pugilism.Any further questions or pictures required just let us know. .
