This volume edited by Beck combined the four different Automobile Club Pacific Coast Blue Books issued for California Oregon British Columbia & Washington separately 1912 with the 1915 edition including revised driving regulations specific instructions on driving the Golden Gate Presidio the Univ. of California as well as scenic drives in Oregon Washington & British Columbia. These Blue Books offered complete maps of every motor road running directions at every fork and turn with mileages points of interest ferry and steamship schedules and extensive illustrated ads for all the potential motorist’s needs such as garages service stations hotels and restaurants. First edition of this scarce promotional dealer’s brochure/poster for the Durant Motors Star Four automobiles which was founded in 1921 by William Durant after he lost control of General Motors. During the 1920s Durant Motors built cars assembled from parts manufactured by other suppliers and the intent was to build a company that rivaled GM and Chevrolet. This catalogue describes and illustrates the Durant Four-Cylinder Touring Four-cylinder Roadster Sedan and Coupe intended to compete with Ford’s Model T. Drawing upon many of the design cues first introduced in 1933-1934 at Chicago’s Century of Progress World’s Fair these models featured desirable configurations such as the 3-Window Coupe 5-Window Coupe 2-Door Roadster and the 2-Door Cabriolet with very few still surviving. First edition of this exceedingly scarce original dealer’s showroom brochure for the 1932 Ford Model 18 when Henry Ford brought V-8 power to the people and within a generation inspired a wide array of hot rodders. The “Deuce Coupe†was an entirely new body style thanks to Edsel Ford and the softer and smoother lines with a few more curves inspired automobile enthusiasts customers and automotive designers which would even be further refined in the soon-to-be-released 1933 models. All 1932 Fods came with black fenders wire wheels and a rear-mounted spare wheel with options of twin side mounts luggage rack clocks interior and exterior mirros and choice of leather available for customers. The 1932 Ford Model 18 was produced for only about 6-7 months in 1932 until the 1933 models appeared. The 1932 models retained the flat radiator smaller 106 in. wheelbase hence they were lighter and still powered by the powerful Ford Flathead V-8. The Ford V-8 had previously only been included with their Lincoln line-up but now was the centerpiece of the new very fast Fords. Worldcat locates only 1 copy Hagley. Ford Motor Co., paperback

First edition of this very rare dealer brochure promoting the 1940 Plymouth commercial vehicles which would continue to be produced pretty much on the same platform for nine and a half years. The 1940 model PT105 pickup was 116 inch wheelbase and increased horsepower to 79 the addition of parking lamps on top of the headlights and three chrome bars on the radiator shell. The pickups were fitted with 3-man cabs panel delivery vans were on the 1940 Roadking chassis they even provided a 1940 ambulance conversion for the Roadking touring sedan. The work incorporates short humor stories of the Brass Era motorist previously published in the magazine and Williams’ silhouette illustrations outlined and filled in with black were similar in appearance to models used in Chinese shadow theatre. Williams 1888-1982 would later become well known for developing Michelin tire’s advertising campaigns during the Roaring 20’s featuring his cartoon character “Bibendum†often advising consumers on the advantages of Michelin tires. First edition of this limited edition privately printed Christmas greeting memoir documenting the trip of Frederic Courtland Penfield and his wife in their “Blue Peter†limousine touring car and support limousine which appear to be 1908 Napier 45 hp Type 23’s fitted with 6-cylinder engines and coachwork by Burlington Carriage Co. -- at the time the height of wealthy Edwardian motoring. The breezy account recounts their experiences at the Spanish-French frontier visiting Barcelona side trip to Toledo the decidedly rough Spanish roads and experience finally a breakdown where the wives in the excursion are shepherded into Spain’s Prime Minister Maura’s luxurious vehicle which happened to be passing and deposited at a inn near the Palace. The account was originally printed in as a series in Century Magazine. Penfield 1855-1922 later US Ambassador to the Austro-Hungarian Empire during World War I and his wife Anne Weightman Walker Penfield 1844-1932 made their Brass era excursion as a sort of Honeymoon Trip with friends celebrating their recent marriage in style which included meeting the young King Alfonso XIII ironically just before the collapse of the Prime Minister Antonio Maura government in 1909.
