First edition inscribed of this automobile racing portfolio of prints capturing the rugged dirt track era of the 1920’s and 1930’s when Burgess d. 1992 was himself racing. The prints include All Crossed Up Rained Out Off the Fence Buying a Little Fence Trouble in the First Turn The Weary Racers Time Trials and Burning the Midnight Oil. Burgess was a Boston-born race car driver whose speed shop built midget open-wheel racers and whose promotional abilities elevated New England racing before World War II. After developing superchargers and jet engines for GE during and after World War II he became the curator of the Briggs Cunningham Automotive Museum until it closed.
