A lovely example of this socio-political novel from former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Benjamin Disraeli. Sybil traces the plight of the working classes of England mirroring Disraeli's interest stemming from the Chartist movement in dealing with the horrific conditions in which the majority of the country's working classes lived. The novel also examines the moral corruption inherent in forcing children to work under such conditions. The characters of the sixteen-year-old Dandy Mick and Devilsdust who is abandoned by his mother and left to fend for himself are particularly emblematic of this. Uniformly bound in quarter calf with cloth boards. Externally excellent with minimal shelf wear and a few marks to the calf. Internally firmly bound.
