266 pages including index of authors cited. Second printing of 1939 First Edition. "In the first and longest essay Hayek develops his well-known theory of industrial fluctuations beyond the point at which it was left in his Prices and Production. While the central argument of this theory remains the same, it is now restated on somewhat different and more realistic assumptions and in less abstract forms and certain important improvements are introduced. The main advance concerns the relationship between the rate of interest and the rate of profit. The other essays deal with particular problems in the same field such as demand for capital, capital maintenance, the factors governing investment, and the supply of savings. The first essay appears for the first time; the others are collected, and in part translated from various English and foreign journals in which they were originally published." - from dust jacket. Contents clean and unmarked. Light wear to red boards. Slight lean to spine which bears bright gilt lettering. Average wear to dust jacket which bears several small chips and tears, primarily at spine ends, and several small marks upon back panel. Overall a nice solid copy. Book

First edition, 8vo (207 x 125 mm), xxxii, 365, [3]pp., without the half-title but with the final errata leaf, cont. calf, neatly rebacked, leather spine label lettered in gilt. "Samuel Crumpe (1766?1796) came to prominence in 1793 with a carefully argued essay on unemployment, entitled An essay on the best means of providing employment for the people. In this he emphasised the importance of agriculture, and attacked low wages as 'a premium to idleness'; he also maintained that people would be lazy when working unless well paid. The essay also echoed popular concerns of the time when Crumpe argued that a prosperous Britain would lead to a prosperous Ireland, and it hinted at the dangers of separation."?(DIB). 19005515Cincinnati: The Bloch Publishing and Printing Co 1900. 432 i.e. 48pp. Original printed wrappers stapled 5.25 x 3 inches. Minor wear and toning small chip to three corners larger chip to top corner of front wrapper costing a couple of letters. Light foxing otherwise clean internally. Very good. An informative and seemingly unrecorded catalogue of Jewish books and publications issued by the Bloch Publishing and Printing Company of Cincinnati the oldest Jewish publishing firm in the United States just before the turn of the 20th century. The company was founded by Edward H. Bloch in 1854 and quickly grew into the leading publisher of Jewish material. The present work was published just a couple of years before the founder's son Charles H. Bloch moved the company to New York City and rebranded as The Jewish Book Concern operating the largest Jewish bookstore in the country. The present catalogue provides a clear picture of the breadth of the publishing house's offerings containing brief descriptions and prices for a large selection of Bibles prayer books primers catechisms grammars histories theological and philosophical texts lectures and sermons works in German novels juveniles music books and so forth. The proposed date for the publication comes from an advertisement on the rear wrapper for the Hebrew Almanac For the Year 5659. From Sept. 17 1898 To Sept. 5 1899. We couldn't find any listings in OCLC for this particular year of Bloch's catalogues. The Bloch Publishing and Printing Co unknown
187212672San Luis Potosi Mx 1872. 22pp. on a folded folio sheet. An intriguing issue of the San Luis Potosi state newspaper La Sombra de Zaragoza produced in the late-Spring of 1872. The paper was issued at irregular intervals at the time but was most frequently issued as a four-page paper printed on a single large folio sheet. Such is not the case in the present issue. Most of the first two pages of the paper print regulations for brokers working in the plaza of San Luis Potosi including new prohibitions and tariffs. The last part of the last column prints a public notice of an estate auction and an advertisement for the sale of the Velez Printing House. Page two ends with "Imp. del Gobierno."<br /> <br /> The second leaf is entirely comprised of eight forms of type imposed in quarto format indicating pages 129-136 of some larger work. Further research reveals that this second leaf prints one gathering of a larger pamphlet which appears on the second leaf of several issues in the full run of La Sombra de Zaragoza consulted at the Beinecke Library. The pamphlet is entitled Arancel de Aduanas Maritimas y Fronterizas de los Estados-Unidos Mexicanos published by the authorities of the state of San Luis Potosi. In an instance of historical echo in present times the pamphlet pertains to maritime and border customs tariffs imposed by the Mexican government. The presence of one quarto sheet of a larger pamphlet tacked onto the second leaf of the state newspaper seems to indicate that the Mexican government in San Luis Potosi in the mid-19th century sometimes pre-empted the work of the printers at La Sombra de Zaragoza to produce larger government publications. As such the present issue is at one and the same time an original periodical produced by the press in San Luis Potosi and a handsome example of mid-19th-century Mexican job printing. unknown
pp. (2), 352. Cancellans at A2 & H3. 4to. [295 x 230 mm.] Printed on Baskerville's fine, smooth Writing Royal paper. Worn full contemporary mottled calf. All edges decorated red. Caius Valerius Catullus (Ca. 84-54 B.C.), Roman poet, born in Verona, of a well-to-do family. He went to Rome (62 B.C.) where he fell deeply in love, probably with Clodia, sister of Cicero's opponent Publ us Clodius. She was suspected of murdering her husband. Catullus wrote to his beloved, addressed as Lesbia (to recall Sappho of Lesbos), a series of superb little poems that run from early passion and tenderness to the hatred and disillusionment that overwhelmed him after his mistress was faithless. His works include, besides the Lesbia poems, poems to his young friend Juventius; epigrams, ranging from the genial to the obscenely derisive; elegies; a few long poems, notably "Attis" and a nuptial poem honoring Thetis and Peleus; and various short pieces. His satire is vigorous and flexible, his light poems joyful and full-bodied. He was influenced by the Alexandrians and drew much on the Greeks for form and meter, but his genius outran all models. Catullus is one of the greatest lyric poet s of all time. John Baskerville (1706-1775) was the greatest printer of his era. Born in Wolverley, Hereford - Worcester, England, he became a writing master in Birmingham. He also carried on a successful japanning (varnishing) business there. In about 1750 he began to make experiments in letter founding, and produced the wonderful series of types now named after him. His first book, the Virgil of 1757, was also the first to be printed upon wove paper (manufactured by a process that he invented). In 1758 he be came printer to Cambridge University. All of his books bear show fine craftsmanship and a refined sense of design. In the last few years before his death, Baskerville published a few Latin classics in quarto and duodecimo. "All these bear the marks of unabated genius even in his declining days: and suffice, had he printed nothing else, to distinguish him as the first typographer of his time" - T. B. Reed, in 'Old English Letter Foundries'. **PRICE JUST REDUCED! Gaskell 44. W113
