1970ABE-1356456827Heinemann London 1970 This first printing of the ground breaking examination of some of the greatest and most moving poetry in English is a beautiful volume. It will interest all who love Keats perhaps through the sensitive and wonderful film recently made by Jane Campion. He is a poet who leaves a strong taste and you either love it or not. Jane Campion's new film 'BRIGHT STAR' will no doubt turn many more people towards this wonderful Londoner's youthful genius and we must hope it does. This great and accessible book presents the five immortal ODES of KEATS which are his best-known work. Fourteen original manuscripts are reproduced in fascsimile enabling the reader to see how Keats conceived and then improved these extraordinary poems. This is all introduced with notes by Robert Gittings who was the great Keats scholar of modern times. If you wish to find out how Ode to a Nightingale Ode on a Grecian Urn Ode to Psyche To Autumn and Ode on Melancholy were originally presented in 1820 along with the facsimiles of the earliest known manuscripts this will satisfy your curiosity. A brilliant and satisfying volume and this copy is certainly a collectable one. The buckram binding is near perfect tight and square no bent corners. The elegantly laid out text is printed on good art paper without foxing. The book is not inscribed or written upon and bears no abuses by a library. The elusive jacket although neatly price clipped is almost perfect with a slighly sunned spine and is now protected within a mylar sleeve. There are a few very tiny tears at the top of the spine but nothing live on the jacket is affected. Immortal words from an all too mortal writer invite one to speculate on how much was lost when this man died in his prime at only twenty five. We can ask this question when we have studied these fabulous and deeply moving works. Language: eng Language: eng 0.0 Language: eng 0.0 Language: eng 0.0 Language: eng. 1st Edition. Hardcover. "The novellino is a collection of fifty stories, each one told by the writer separately, without any striving after continuity. Masuccio does not trouble himself like certain others of the Novellieri, to construct a setting for his work, and to feign that the tales are told in turn by the work, and to feign that the tales are told in turn by the various members of a gentle company brought together by hazard. He tells us that all his novels are true, and that in many cases he is only setting down what he has learnt by the evidence of his senses. " Very nice set. **PRICE JUST REDUCED! SET/W47
