1926160406Seattle WA: Blue Mouse Theatre 1926. Vintage newsletter for Seattle's Blue Mouse Theatre Vol. 1 No. 4 for the week beginning Saturday March 17 1923. Newsletter features a two-color promotion for "The Beautiful and Damned" attached to the top left corner of the cover.<br /> <br /> The Blue Mouse Theater still in operation today as the Tacoma Blue Mouse Jr. is Seattle's oldest movie theater. During the 1920s the theater published a weekly newsletter every Saturday promoting current and upcoming films as well as Hollywood news and local interest. <br /> <br /> Promoted in the issue on offer here are the films "A Woman's Woman" 1922 "Suzanna" 1923 and "The Beautiful and Damned" 1922.<br /> <br /> 7.75 x 10.75 inches one-color bifold with a two-color attachment. Light wear; near fine.</p> <p>An example of early 20th-century American burlesque ephemera: a promotional handbill for the Messenger Theatre’s revue Scenes in a Sanatorium starring the Boston Belles. The program features a full comedic cast with characters such as “Doctor Dippy a Professor in Dope†“Jake Krameyer a sausage maker†and “Mille le Tigre†alongside named actors. It lists musical numbers a follow-up satire titled Two Married Men and additional variety acts. </p> <p>At various points during the evening musical numbers including “Jungle Town†“Base Ball†“Chew My Chewing Gum†and “Old Time Rag†were also performed.</p> <p>An upcoming production of Lena Rivers is advertised for Monday October 12 informing our suggestion that this broadside dates from 1908.</p> <p> </p> unknown

It precedes all other publications of the play. / Julian Beck / NYC Feb 1985."<br /> <br /> The play premiered at The Living Theatre on May 13 1963. It was the recipient of three Obie Awards for Best Production Best Design and Best Direction. Jonas Mekas would film a 1963 performance of the play after it had closed released in 1964.<br /> <br /> A realistic and anti-authoritarian depiction of a US Marine Corps prison based on playwright Kenneth H. Brown's experience being held in a brig for 30 days while serving with the Third Marines at Camp Fuji in the 1950s.<br /> <br /> The Living Theatre revived the play to inaugurate its new permanent location on the Lower East Side in Manhattan on March 29 2007 directed by Judith Malina.<br /> <br /> Self wrappers front wrapper integral with the title page noting credits for playwright Kenneth H. ABE-1537633542794VERY RARE THEATRE EPHEMERA. Possibly the only surviving example of this programme. GORGEOUS full colour front and rear pictures for the Deptford London BOADWAY Theatre. This is for the Five Act play 'A Life Of Pleasure' by Augustus Harris and Henry Pettit. It is printed on stiff covers for the outer and a four page black and white inside on standard paper. It is packed with ads for various local Deptford London businesses. The biggest ad is inside on the left page for Gardiner & Compy Scotch House Department Stores with branches in Deptford Whitechapel and Islington. Extremely rare and without a firm date but there is a reference to 'THE QUEEN' on one of the ads which is for the drinks company 'IDRIS'. On the back is a full colour interior of the theatre with prices - Private Boxes start at £1.1.0 and go up to £3.3.0; Stalls 4/- and Dress Circle 4/- Pit Stalls 2/- Pit 1/- and Gallery 6d. Those were the days! This programme measures 10 inches by 8 inches. But it is a stunning example of theatre history. Soft cover. Very Good. paperback
