Laid in a mimeographed poetical dedication by a friend of Otto Klingler to his son Werner and his wife on the occasion of the celebration of the confirmation of Klinger's son. Dated Stuttgart April 6 1919 with unidentified signature. Some pencil notes on versos of some photographs e.g. "Wetterleuchten um Barbara" "zu hell kopiert" overexposed "Werner Klingler" "unscharf kopiert" copied blurred and "Heidemarie Stalheyer."<br /> <br /> Propaganda film depicting the struggle of Tyrol mountain farmers against the Austrian authorities leading up the annexation of Austria by the third Reich. Young Barbara and her husband Martin move onto the family farm in the mountains of Tyrol. While Barbara has to prevail despite the intrigues of her mother-in-law her husband and his friend Anton engage in the resistance against the Austrian army. A local commander of the Austrian army finds out about Martin's and his friend's activities prompting all of them to flee into the mountains. During the chase Anton is shot dead but the search company pursuing them is killed in an avalanche. A trial is staged accusing Anton of the murder of a militia man. Barbara falters under the pressure and admits the truth therefore the trial ends with the sentencing of her husband Martin. The insertion of NS symbolism into the movie towards the end of the film is done in a rather coarse way blatant and unsophisticated taking away from the suspense of the actual drama. Nevertheless after the invasion of the German troops Barbara and Martin are able to return to her family farm.<br /> <br /> Wetterleuchten um Barbara: Director Werner Klingler; screenplay by Harald G. Petersson and Hanns Saßmann based on Irmgard Wurmbrand's novel with the same title. Laid in is an eight page transcript of a PublicTheater interview with Hare dated May 15 1985 with manuscript pencil and marker annotations throughout in what appears to be Hare's hand a sixteen page program for the film with two modest ink annotations on two pages a thirteen page "Preliminary Production Notes" and a one page clipping of "Stanley Kauffmann On Films: Against the Darkness" a review of the film from the August 12 1985 issue of The New Republic.<br /> <br /> A middle-age spinster schoolteacher played by Vanessa Redgrave is forced to reevaluate her life after witnessing the suicide of a recently arrived enigmatic stranger.<br /> <br /> Set in Wetherby England shot on location in West Yorkshire North Yorkshire Middlesex and London. <br /> <br /> Black untitled wrappers with a die-cut window in the British style. The publication is an issue of the of the promotional supplement to the German weekly Illustrierter Film-Kurier promoting the release of the 1930 German war film "Westfront 1918" directed by acclaimed auteur G. W. Pabst and produced by Nero-Film. The film an adaptation of Ernst Johannsen's novel "Vier von der Infanterie" was Pabst's first sound film and was technically pioneering in its use of the new technology to create an immersive visual and sonic experience with complex tracking shots live sound realistic production design and special sound and effects to portray the horrors of WWI to brutal and grim effect. After the Nazis came to power they denounced and censored the film for its pacifistic and antiwar sentiments. It is seen as a companion film to the other WWI drama from the same year the American-produced "All Quiet on the Western Front". Striking front cover graphic design by F. Weber.<br /> <br /> The booklet is profusely illustrated throughout with gorgeous sepia-toned photogravure images and photomontage depicting scenes characters and thrilling action from the film. Includes a dramatic double-page phonographic still from the film. Text throughout including cast and crew credits in German.<br /> <br /> Wrappers with some rubbing along the spine and trimming to the top bottom and side margins resulting in some loss of text and image. Small red ink mark on the front cover. Interior with a closed tear on the side of pages 2-3. Double-page photographic spread loose from binding.
