Translated from the French by Rose Sherman. Prosper Merimee 1803 - 1870 was a French writer and pioneer of the novella. He is best known for his novella Carmen which inspired the opera by Georges Bizet. Colomba is a tragedy about a Corsican vendetta. Colomba the protagonist convinces her brother that she must kill a man to avenge a wrong done to their family. This story was the result of a trip taken by the author to Corsica where much research he did found its way into the story. Two pages haven't been properly trimmed by the publisher and are folded.
