1902100898<p>Boston Massachusetts May 1 1902. 1902. Fine. - Three lines of music penned on a 5-7/8 inch high by 7-7/8 inch wide watermarked paper. Identified in an unknown and as "Birds of a Feather" at bottom left of the page with the words and date "Modella 1882" penned by Bimboni at top right. The composer has signed and dated the quotation under the last line of music "Oreste Bimboni / Boston Hall / 1 May 1902". Near fine.</p><p>A RARE autograph.</p><p>The conductor and opera composer Oreste Bimboni 1846-1905 was with his nephew Alberto part of a long legacy of Florentine musicians. Both spent an extensive time abroad especially in the United States. As an opera conductor in Florence Oreste worked with some of the most significant singers of his time such as Adelina Patti and Emma Calve. He is first recorded as arriving in the United States in 1896. He moved to California in 1898 where he conducted opera. He moved back to the United States in 1902 after spending some time in Florence and taught at the New England Conservatory for three years before moving back to Europe.</p> Boston, Massachusetts, May 1, 1902.

Very Good Minus. 8vo. 23 by 15.5 cm. 65 pp. And unpaginated middle section 33 leaves with generally four photos per page that are each part of a moving image when the leaves are quickly flipped. In total eight separate moving images as the moving manipulation works when flipping forwards with the recto photos or backwards with the verso photos. All of these demonstrate diving and swimming technique. Thus with four different moving images vertically arranged we have a rather novel flip book. Glucker was a German author of other books on various subjects of physical fitness and this survey first appeared two years earlier in its original German. The letter begins: 'Vixere fortes antes Agamemnona all the Earls of Derby have of late been Edwards in 1828 the Earl of Derby was the grandfather of the present one – I have known him – the great cockfighter – and husband of Miss Farren.' He asks him not to forget to send 'the book of diplomatic sports': he is leaving for the continent the following Saturday but will not fail to return it.
