In good condition on lightly aged and foxed paper. No other manuscript text. The page 163 has printed on it the dates ‘June 29’ and halfway down ‘June 30’ and the signatures are beneath the former. On the reverse is a printed poem by ‘Louise Chandler Moulton’ ‘A maiden sits in her bower and sings’. Image on application. No place or date. unknown

18601467Paris: Au Bureau des Modes Parisiennes. c.1860. Folio 33.5 x 25cm. Publisher's original bright green wrappers with titles in gilt to the upper cover. The contents comprising 20 finely hand-coloured engraved plates on thick paper depicting various regional costumes with printed titles above and beneath with blank protective leaf between each plate. The plates irregularly numbered as they were originally issued as part of the 'Modes Parisiennes' periodical. A very good copy the binding firm with a 2cm tear to the head of the lower cover creasing to the corners and a little chipping to the spine ends and corners. The contents with the occasional minor finger-mark to the edges of the blank margins are otherwise in very good order the plates remaining clean and vivid. A selection of beautifully hand-coloured engravings illustrating regional costumes of Algeria Spain Italy Portugal Greece and Eastern Europe issued by the French fashion periodical 'Modes Parisiennes'. Good Plus. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. 787 pp. 11 color plates of soldiers and fighters and 4 steel engravings of panoramas or views. Comprehensive history of Algeria from Ancient Carthage to the then present of French control. Binding and text blocks are tight. Some occasional foxing and on some pages it is considerable as inevitable given the paper stock used. The costume color plates though are attractive and mostly clean albeit their paper is toned a bit. Red calf spine and boards have a fair amount of rubbing scuffing and wear with some rawness on spine extremities. Overall better than a good copy. Tipografia Floriana unknown

This book is in a larger format than the French original of 1796. This is tantamount to a large paper edition of the original. Custom slipcase with morocco trim patterned paper pastedown. Modern half red morocco binding. Condition: slip case with some separation of a few edges. Repair to joints. Some foxing on paper but overall remarkably clean given the paper stock used at the time in Italy. One long closed tear repaired and a few shorter tear repairs. Mazzoleni unknown
