Scotin and three engraved headpieces. The title-page is printed in red and black and has a small engraved vignette on it. Small octavo. x1591xx pp. with generous margins. 17.2 cm. Bound in later green calf with title and date gilt-stamped to spine and a gilt-stamped double-rule border on sides. Matching green leather book label of noted collector Charles Bain Hoyt on front pastedown. The binding is toned on spine and along top edge with a small nick at crown and light wear to joints. The text and plates are clean. This is a reprint of the 1731 edition including the illustrations of Jacques Amyot's French translation followed by Antoine Lancelot's notes. Very good.
