Il commento di Giulio Camillo all'opera del Petrarca spicca nel panorama dell'esegesi petrarchesca del '500 per l'originalità e la ricchezza delle fonti segnalate. Egli non si limita alla mera ricostruzione del "romanzo" dell'amore di Petrarca per Laura ('Rerum vulgarium fragmenta') ma valuta, con puntuali riscontri, le suggestive (spesso indebite) interpretazioni platonizzanti; individua le strutture formali che saranno modello della poesia moderna ('Canzoniere'); scava nell'intertestualità petrarchesca, con una fittissima rete di rinvii e riferimenti alle possibili fonti - classiche, volgari e, soprattutto, provenzali - per le quali individua una qualche forma di relazione. Paolo Zaja ha selezionato le chiose camilliane - scritte negli anni Trenta del '500 in forma di appunti per l'insegnamento - e, pur nella veste approssimativa della scrittura destinata alla comunicazione orale, ci consegna intatta la cifra del commento dello studioso friulano. Part of the publisher's series "Bohn's Illustrated Library". With a contemporary bookplate and signature of G. Peabody Gardner noted in pencil as a Harvard student. A pleasing copy of Petrarch's literary oeuvre a highlight of medieval literature and poetry. Two cracks to the gutter in different spots of the textblock the binding remains tight and secure.
