"Il Canzoniere" cipriota, tramandato anonimo da un codex unicus, il Marc. gr. IX, 32 (=1287), e databile fra la fine del XV e la metà del XVI sec., è una preziosa testimonianza di poesia petrarchista cinquecentesca in lingua greca, frutto di sincretismo culturale e segno tangibile del viaggio di tòpoi e stilemi petrarcheschi dall'Occidente all'Oriente greco. L'anonimo autore, che si dedicò alla composizione della raccolta probabilmente durante un suo soggiorno in Italia, fra la Ferrara Estense e gli ambienti accademici di area padano-veneta, si compiacque di rendere nel dialetto della sua isola natia metri e forme strofiche ignote alla tradizione versificatoria greca, attingendo al vastissimo panorama della produzione lirica di stampo petrarcheggiante.
