Between the sixth and fifth centuries B. C. Athenian artisans flooded the Mediterranean world with remarkable decorated vases depicting a large variety of images. Jewish Telegraphic Agency April 2 1985:"Marc Chagall the Russian born Jewish painter many of whose masterpieces were on Jewish themes was buried today at Saint Paul De Vence the village in the south of France where he lived and worked for the past 20 years. He died last Thursday at the age of 97.There were no religious rites. Chagall’s widow Valentina Brodsky said the artist had specifically requested that there be no religious service at his burial. A family member recited the Kaddish but without the required minyan.The funeral was attended by a handful of family members and close friends and by diplomats of three nations. Two representatives of the Soviet Embassy in Paris were present as were French Foreign Minister Roland Dumas Minister of Culture Jack Lang and Israel’s Ambassador to France Ovadia Soffer.". 1918JBC00947-2995 blank pages with diagrams and solutions with Christmas Greetings tipped in. Small octavo 7 1/2" x 5" recased in maroon cloth with gilt lettering to spine and original cover laid on. A C White's Christmas series number 24. Bibliotheca Van der Linde-Niemeijeriana: 2645 Whyld 24 Betts 33-40 First edition. 300 problems by Godfrey Heathcote 1870-1952. Mainly 2- and 3-movers 100 problems are in big diagrams. A. C. White Christmas Series was popular series which ran from 1905 through 1936. the publisher of the series was chess composer and enthusiast Alain Campbell White 1880-1951. White sent most books of the series to his friends as Christmas gifts. But they were offered for sale too. The series consists of 44 books on problem chess and one pamphlet from 1912. Most books are hard covers bound in red cloth with gold lettering usually written in English sometimes in German and French and one was partially in Czech. Most of the books have a printed Christmas wish slip by White usually bound in after a title page. It appears that a part of the editions of some books have wish slips and some parts do not. The number of copies published of separate volumes is unknown for the most part. Karel Morky.
