Der Gegenstand hat es mit sich gebracht, dass meine drei Einleitungen sich mit der hellenischen Religion und ihrer geschichtlichen Entwickelung befassen. Ob ich hinreichend verständlich werde, ist mir unsicher, denn diese Seite des griechischen Lebens ist nicht nur an sich dunkel, sondern von falschen Lichtern täuschend erhellt, und die Wissenschaft hat erst in den letzten beiden Decennien energisch begonnen, nicht mehr Mythologie, luxe de croyance, oder Symbolik, sondern Religion auch bei den Hellenen zu suchen. Was Religion ist, das lerne, wer es nicht weifs, bei Carlyle oder bei Lagarde: Schleiermacher redet dafür zu leise und zu dialektisch. Für den Glauben der Hellenen ist es besonders verhängnisvoll, dass Homer über ihn nur ein täuschendes Zeugnis ablegt. Leider kann ich auf kein darstellendes Werk verweisen, das dem tiefer Strebenden ein einigermassen richtiges Bild des Ganzen giebt, von dem ich doch nur ein paar Stücke behandele, vielleicht eben dadurch täuschend, dass nun das Übrige in zu tiefem Schatten zu liegen scheint. … (Vorwort)

Troisième et dernière édition de cet essai qui rendit son auteur célèbre, important dans l'histoire des idées politiques au XVIIe siècle, réfutation complète des "Six livres de la République" de Jean Bodin et réhabilitation d'Aristote contre Bodin. L'ouvrage a par ailleurs été analysé comme une utopie politique du "bon gouvernement". "L'autore elabora la sua confutazione sulla falsariga dell'aristotelismo controriformistico. Contro il Bodin, che sostiene aver avuto lo stato origine per violenza in una società patriarcale, afferma che esso sorse "per necessità e inclinazione naturale" e che il principe, quale suprema autorità dello stato, è "vera immagine di Dio". Alla distinzione delle forme di governo esclusivamente fondata sul numero di coloro che detengono il potere, oppone l'ulteriore distinzione, in base "ai vizi ed alle virtù", di monarchia e tirannia, aristocrazia ed oligarchia, democrazia e demagogia. Contro il Bodin, fautore di una forma di monarchia temperata, l'A. (...), rivendica la superiorità assoluta della forma monarchica pura (...). Nell'ultimo libro, condanna le posizioni del Bodin - che egli accusa di tendenze calvinistiche - sulla tolleranza, e contrappone alla "libertà naturale" la "libertà ferma" (libertà di cre dere quello che si vuole): concedere quest'ultima sarebbe in contrasto con il fine della società, che è "il vivere onesto e felice", e quindi con la buona politica" (E. Issu d'une puissante famille de Bologne, Fabio Albergati (1538-1606) étudia le droit et rentra au service de Guidobaldo II della Rovere à la cour d'Urbino, puis fut chargé de missions diplomatiques auprès des différents papes qui se succédèrent. Comprised of three ancient Greek commentaries on Aristotle which have survived only in Arabic translation: Traités d'Alexandre d'Aphrodise; Paraphrase des Météorologiques d'Aristote par Olympiodorus traduite par Ḥumain ibn Isḥaq; Paraphrase de 'De Animalibus' d'Aristote par Thémistius. This is the only printed edition of each work and it is quite scarce. 'Ce livre est un recueil de textes de philosophie grecque dont l'original grec est perdu et dont il ne nous reste que cette traduction arabe qui sauve par là des traités importants composés par trois parmi les plus grands commentateurs d'Aristote à savoir: Alexandre d'Aphrodise Olympiodore et Thémistius.
