The work was falsely attributed to the celebrated philosopher Aristotle though the work was written anonymously by a Pseudo-Aristotle due to the nature of the work and often considered to be the work of Doctor William Salmon. This volume contains four parts with the first part being 'Aristotle's Complete Master-piece' the popular and controversial sexual guide often considered to be the first English sex manual. The work discusses the benefits of mutual sexual pleasure and the enjoyment of intercourse stating the importance of women's pleasure for successful procreation. These ideas were unusual for the time period and the book was supposedly banned due to the explicit nature of the work though this has not been proven.The rest of the work is a midwifery book discussing fertility pregnancy and childbirth including a discussion about virginity stating that virginity cannot be determined by the state of a women's hymen a statement very ahead of its time. In contemporary full calf retaining the original endpapers. Externally joints cracked tender to the rear with slight rubbing to the extremities and joints marks to the boards and slight loss to the head of the spine. Marks to the rear endpapers. Troisième et dernière édition de cet essai qui rendit son auteur célèbre, important dans l'histoire des idées politiques au XVIIe siècle, réfutation complète des "Six livres de la République" de Jean Bodin et réhabilitation d'Aristote contre Bodin. L'ouvrage a par ailleurs été analysé comme une utopie politique du "bon gouvernement". "L'autore elabora la sua confutazione sulla falsariga dell'aristotelismo controriformistico. Contro il Bodin, che sostiene aver avuto lo stato origine per violenza in una società patriarcale, afferma che esso sorse "per necessità e inclinazione naturale" e che il principe, quale suprema autorità dello stato, è "vera immagine di Dio". Alla distinzione delle forme di governo esclusivamente fondata sul numero di coloro che detengono il potere, oppone l'ulteriore distinzione, in base "ai vizi ed alle virtù", di monarchia e tirannia, aristocrazia ed oligarchia, democrazia e demagogia. Contro il Bodin, fautore di una forma di monarchia temperata, l'A. (...), rivendica la superiorità assoluta della forma monarchica pura (...). Nell'ultimo libro, condanna le posizioni del Bodin - che egli accusa di tendenze calvinistiche - sulla tolleranza, e contrappone alla "libertà naturale" la "libertà ferma" (libertà di cre dere quello che si vuole): concedere quest'ultima sarebbe in contrasto con il fine della società, che è "il vivere onesto e felice", e quindi con la buona politica" (E. Fasano Guarini in: 'Dizionario Biografico degli Italiani' en ligne). Issu d'une puissante famille de Bologne, Fabio Albergati (1538-1606) étudia le droit et rentra au service de Guidobaldo II della Rovere à la cour d'Urbino, puis fut chargé de missions diplomatiques auprès des différents papes qui se succédèrent. Manca la cc 8 dell'indice e le ultime due carte bianche bel frontespizio con larga cornice figurata con angioletti putti e animali anche fantastici non recente leggero sottile capace rinforzo ai bordi. La numerazione della carte è tutta a cifre romane tranne le carte 9 11 13 e 15 che sono numerate in arabo variante B giusta la collazione. Volume con carta tutta un poco ingiallita ma volume ben sistemato e ben godibile riferibile come buono. Sebastiani fu tipografo attivo a Venezia forse un antenato di Giacomo Vincenzi ma Vincentinus potrebbe essere invece che un cognome un'indicazione di provenienza da Vicenza. Thin. vi pp. followed by 22 autotype plates of the papyrus sheets in real size. This is the second volume of this publication very seldom found. It contains the plate illustrations. There is a note in the preface to the second edition that some of the fragments on plates 19 and 20 have been re-arranged based on newly examined evidence and that some of the negatives for the other plates were redone. Scarce. The translation of these fragments was published with commentary in a smaller separate octavo volume of around 200 pages. Sadly this volume is not included. Marcus Antonius Zimara ein Philosoph und Arzt des frühen 16. Jh. aus Apulien lehrte zu Padua die Logik und zu Rom und Padua die Philosophie; cf. Jöcher IV1206. - Alexander Aphrodisiensis war ein peripatetischer Philosoph des 2.-3. nachchristlichen Jahrhunderts der Kommentare und kleinere Exegesen zu Aristoteles verfaßte; seine Interpretation ist antiplatonisch.
