E.Morellon la Cave 1734rubricated t.p. w. engr.panel6 Coste dedicatory epistle of 1729 to Edmund Sheffield w. large engr.headpieceix-xlii60116 Table des Matieres fore-edge & bottom uncut all edges v.sl.browned occ.eraseable pencilled marginal lines & more rarely underlining gutter opening but secure before f/piece fr.endpaper very crumpled along gutter and has a tiny paper fragment which it is somewhat obsessional to note f/piece is excellent but back of it i.e.recto of leaf browned to edges fr. pastedown has an almost illegible early 3 line pencil inscrip. and is also crumpled along gutter with some adhesion to endpaper towards top and gutter opening visible at bottom; situation at back similar but less severe though gutter opening very visible and sm cluster of old worm-holes at bottom pastedown no worming present elsewhere. Intriguingly bound in recycled vellum most intriguingly which is pretty grubby and yellowed with extensive text covering most of fr. this is barely legible but I have been expertly advised that it is probably a near contemporary French legal or business document; this has a 1 cm.diam.round hole towards top bottom fr.joint split with related chipping bottom sp. rear board quite sound top sp.& fr.corners quite good bar s sm.nick below top no sp.lettering. Hard to provide a single rating on condition but textblock VG- being tight and pencil marking remediable binding including internal condition about Good but also intriguing. A 2nd ed.of this translation appeared in 1724 but further ammendments and material were added to this. Additional postage will be required for this heavy volume. <br/> <br/> Pierre Mortier hardcover
