A muoverla, a spingerla ad esporsi in prima persona, fisicamente e psicologicamente, attraverso i suoi scritti e le sue azioni spesso ribelli, anticonformiste, temerarie era una cosa soltanto: l'indignazione, genuina, autentica, quasi istintiva nei confronti di qualsiasi abuso venisse perpetrato da parte dei più forti nei confronti dei più deboli, di chi non ha la capacità, la forza, gli strumenti per difendersi, di chi vede quotidianamente calpestati i diritti più elementari: al lavoro, alla casa, alla dignità. Basta questo aspetto per capire l'importanza e l'attualità del pensiero di Simone Weil: oggi più che mai viviamo (come avrebbe scritto un'altra filosofa del Novecento, Hannah Arendt) in "tempi bui", tempi di crisi economica in cui la crisi economica scatena, oggi come in passato, crisi sociali, razzismo, xenofobia, discriminazione, rifiuto dell'altro come essere umano, pericoloso preludio di ogni forma di fascismo. Oggi più che mai viviamo questo clima di sospetto e di paura, di limiti e di barriere, di muri e di violenza; e oggi, più che mai, non ne siamo pienamente consapevoli. Rileggere Simone Weil oggi significa allora recuperare un po' del suo coraggio di esporsi apertamente, pubblicamente, nella sua lotta per un mondo più vivibile, tollerante e dignitoso, un mondo che possa dirsi realmente umano."
