19902602240001The Easton Press 1990. Leatherbound. New. NEW Factory Sealed. Introduction by Matthew Bruccoli and Illustrations by Richard Powers. xi 259 pages : illustrations some color ; 24 cm. . . . . . This volume contains the full text of Hemingways novel introduced by a critical essay from Matthew J. Bruccoli that frames the book within Hemingways career and the socalled Lost Generation. Interspersed through the text are illustrations by Richard Powers whose images combine figurative and abstract elements - suggestive forms stylized faces and symbolic motifs - evoking Parisian cafes Spanish bullrings and the emotional distance among the characters rather than merely depicting literal scenes. Taken together the heavy leather bright gilt rich paper and interpretive artwork give the book the feel of a carefully made collectors edition meant as much to be admired and kept as to be read.
