Lengthy unpublished ballad of 86 4- and 5-line stanzas recounting the plight of iron molder and IWW leader Tom Mooney from his birth to the present date 1934 based on the penultimate stanza on p. 6 describing Judge Griffin: "all these eighteen years since the 1916 trial / Has fought on Mooney's side". Though no author is provided the poet has a detailed knowledge of Mooney's biography and trial beginning before his birth with his father "A tall trade-union Irishman / Choking his lungs out mining coal"; progressing to Mooney's early childhood helping his widowed mother make ends meet as a paperboy; and the first trial against him after dynamite was found or planted on a boat in the San Pablo Bay a crime for which he was exonerated. The poem additionally recounts the first meetings between Mooney and Warren K. Billings as well as the tireless travel and work his mother and sister shouldered to bring justice after it was revealed that the star witness Frank Oxman had perjured himself. The poem ends with the heartbreaking death of Mother Mooney who was laid in state at the gates of San Quentin and the mournful plea: "Warren Billings is forty years old. / Tom Mooney's hair grows white. / How soon will California turn / Her long long wrong to right" Another five years would pass before liberal Governor Culbert Olson would pardon him in 1939. unknown

Appears to be quite scarce. <p>An artifact of the 1970s boom in libertarianism when radical capitalist philosophers like Spooner almost nearly came back in vogue. While little known today outside of libertarian circles so much so that I've heard otherwise well-informed historians assert that 19th century abolitionism and anarcho-capitalism had nothing in common his work has inspired a small but devoted following. Near Fine with light wear. <p>A thick collection of Grateful Dead lyrics plus lyrics to songs the Dead often covered. A memento of rabid Deadhead culture at the close of the '80s transcribed by the anonymous Deadeditor by hand from listening to various tapes; tape-trading being one of the most popular pursuits in the subculture. According to said editor in the intro "This book was not xeroxed out of another lyric book nor was it copied out of Dead songbooks. Anything that was taken from another source was looked over and corrected to the best of my ability." Also notable for the time was that it was written on a Macintosh SE computer writing on a computer was a strange new thing for many people then believe it or not and "the final copy was printed on a NEC Silent Writer laser printer." The title is taken from the band's classic song "Ripple" off the 1970 studio LP American Beauty. Rare with a single institutional copy located in a recent OCLC WorldCat search. [No Publisher] unknown

Three articles from 'The Pamphleteer' bound over two volumes. The articles included are;'Substance of a Letter to Lord Viscount Melville Written in May 1815 with the Outlines of a Plan to Raise British Seamen and to Form Their Minds to Volunteer the Naval Service when Required; To do Away with the Evils of Impressment and Man Our Ships Effectually with Mercantile Seamen' and'Somatopsychonoologia: Showing that the Proofs of Body Life and Mind Considered as Distinct Essences Cannot be Deduced from Physiology but Depend on a Distinct Sort of Evidence Being an Examination of the Controversy Concerning Life Carried on by MM. Laurence Abernethy Rennell & Others'. Both of these articles bound together and taken from 'The Pamphleteer Vol. XXIV No. XLVIII. This is the second edition of this work. and a separate volume featuring 'The Right and Practice of Impressment as Concerning Great Britain and America Considered' taken from Vol. XIV No. XXVIII of 'The Pamphleteer'.This set features three very scarce articles from 'The Pamphleteer'. One of the articles was written by Thomas Forster under the pen name of 'Philostratus' and discusses the ideas of Abernethy Laurence and Rennell concerning the separation of the mind and body and how the scientific concept of somatopsychology the concept of the link between mind and body linking psychology and medicine disproves their ideas. The other two articles discuss impressment including the rights of Britain to conscript American born citizens and the negative effects of forced conscription. The odd 'Library of Political Science' stamp to all. Disbound from the original wrappers all pages present. Pages generally firmly bound to 'Substance of a Letter' and 'Somatopsychonoologia' mostly disbound to the other. Catharine Parr Traill 1802-1899 was one of the literary Strickland sisters who also included Agnes Jane Margaret Elizabeth and Susanna. Catharine was a children's author before emigrating with her husband a retired Napoleonic War soldier to Upper Canada. Here she wrote many Canadian novels and settlers' guides. The Backwoods of Canada includes much useful and interesting information on homemaking in pioneer Canada including pioneer recipes. The front card cover is titled and decorated with a sketch and borders all in cyanotype; the rear has cyanotype borders; bound with silk ribbons. There is a crack to the front board with a small chip at the lower edge. The photographs are sharp and in fine condition. Weyauwega meaning "here we rest" is a small town in Waupaca County Wisconsin first founded as a stopping point for Native Americans portaging between the two rivers; later populated by fur traders. <br /> <br /> The compiler of this album wrote on the recto of the front cover in cyanotype " HOW DEAR TO THIS HEART ARE THE SCENES OF MY CHILDHOOD" The images included views of a large white house with a white picket fence scenes along the river front a dam on the river the Church a horse and buggy parade down the main street barns and other structures etc. Published by the Author unknown

He served in various pastoral and administrative roles before being appointed Bishop of Albany in 1847. In 1864 he was named Archbishop of New York where he oversaw significant growth in the Catholic population expanded parishes and schools and strengthened Catholic charitable institutions during a period of heavy immigration.<br /> <br> <br /> In 1875 Pope Pius IX elevated him to the College of Cardinals marking a milestone for the American Church.
