Alle affinità nella tematica e nei meccanismi narrativi è dedicato ampio spazio: investigando i modi in cui sono rappresentati i contesti insulari della Irishness e della sicilianità; i processi creativi del personaggio-artista nel Kunstlerroman; i temi e i meccanismi narrativi che accompagnano sia l'epifania joyciana sia il silenzio interiore pirandelliano. Per concludere si confrontano i due pagliacci più rappresentativi del canone sotto la lente del pensiero di Foucault e si scoprono come personaggi prettamente antinomici e contraddittori rivelino molte verità inammissibili per la società del tempo.
