This was made into a film by Roger Vadim in 1966 with Jane Fonda. This is a Very Good Plus copy of an edition which was LIMITED to 2050 sets. A very nice edition with a long introduction by Henry James. Black cloth binding with a reproduction of Zola's signature on the front; titling on a paper label on the spine. Clean text; xli 323 pages; all rough-cut. The translation is by Alexander Texeira de Matos; it was the first unexpurgated translation which came out in 1895. Attractive deco bookplate on the front paste-down. Rear paste-down has a publisher's titling label. Light push to the corners and rub to one side of the paper spine label.
